Clan of Xymox

So I am listening to the new Clan of Xymox CD "Breaking Point" on Metropolis records. It's pretty good but I've noticed something, Since Clan of Xymox came back with a new lineup in the late 90's they havn't really changed their sound that much, it's like every record is exactly the same as the last. They all have catchy goth rock songs in the vein of Sisters of Mercy and they all have electro synth parts similar to VNV Nation but if you've heard one album, you've heard them all.

When I was in highschool they were one of my favorite bands ("Evelyn" is still a 'goth' classic). I've also noticed I'm the only person in the world who liked the "Xymox" period where they dropped the "clan of" from their name and went club/pop in the early to mid 90's.

Here's my opinions on the Clan of Xymox records:

Clan of Xymox (1985 4AD records) 4 Stars (out of 5)

Medusa (1986 4AD records) 3 stars

Twist of Shadows (1989 Mercury) 3 stars

Phoenix (1991 mercury) 4 stars

METAMORPHOSIS (1992 ???) 2 stars

Headclouds (1993 Zok records) 3 stars

Subsequent Pleasures (re-release of 1984 demo for 4ad) 2 stars

Hidden Faces (1997 tess records) 3 stars

Creatures (1999 tess records) 2 stars

Clan of Xymox: LIVE (2000 ???) 4 stars

Notes from the Underground (2001 ???) 2 stars

Remixes from the Underground (2002 features remixes by VNV Nation, Assemblage23 etc) 2 stars

Farewell (2003 ???) 4 stars

The Best of Clan of Xymox (2004 ???) 4 stars

Breaking Point (2006 Metropolis) 3 stars

Mostly, we're not sure if we're going to keep it and Snowbird to AZ in the Winter and come back to CO for the heat of the summer, but eventually I think we will live in AZ full time. For now the property in CO is always going up in value so the longer we hold onto it, the more it'll be worth, if we ever choose to sell.   For now we have the option to stay at her cousin's and an option to buy a chunk of the 250 acres they bought. Our ranch in CO also needs a new well - a huge investment - so we're trying to decide if we want to fix the well at a cost of 50-100k, or just buy more land from her cousin. Either way will be good, though! Pretty much can't go wrong buying land, these days. Well, depending on the area of course, but out here, land just keeps going up in price, never down , so there's that..   Also it will take years to move our ranch, if we choose to move it all. I figure at least 3 or 4 of the biggest Penske truck loads, and that's conservative and if we broke everything down into pieces and packed the trucks like Tetris 🤣

      ~~~~~ Wow.  I hope that works out for you.  Will you be moving your ranch there?
