Just my opinion;

Law enforcement agencies should be given all required authority to enforce laws.

If an illegal immigrant is caught, they should be deported on the spot!

It should be a requirement that, if someone wants to be a citizen of this country and live here, they should have to go through the immigration process, AND be able to SPEAK FLUENT ENGLISH!!!! It baffles me how someone could live here and not speak english, how do you survive ???

Only people with valid U.S. passports or visas or green cards, and people who are married to people who have this documentation, should be allowed to cross the border into the US.

Until someone gets elected into office that actually has to conviction to take the proper action on these issues, I do not forsee anything changing for the better.

Lastly, and this is also just my opinion, anyone who enters this country illegally should not have the same rights as someone who entered legally or someone who has lived here their entire life. Freedom is not free. We should not be saying, oh well you're here anyway, so here ya go, here's yer rights. They should be earned, not given freely.

You know, I am pretty with everybody on all the things being mentioned.

But I'm a bit softer on the language thing. I do believe if you're going to be in a country - any country - you need to have a basic grasp of the language to expect to get by. But I don't think it should be a requirement that you speak like you were born there.

Basic needs like how to deal with traffic signs, shopping terms (the sign reads "20 items or less" in the express lane, alright?) stuff like that, definitely. But conversational, not really.

But where I'm much, much more rigid is the catering to non-English speaking people. I'm really tired of businesses and companies having to go to lengths to include Spanish, French and sometimes other languages on their products or in their services.

I mean, it's really great that so many foreign countries have everything in their own langage AND English. But I don't feel they have to. Same deal here.

FC i love it when you get involved, you always articulate what i'm thinking so well. All (please read all) of my relatives immigrated here. From the first Spanish Anza march up across what is now the border to the rest of my lineage. I'm aobut 9th generation american but made up of italian, spanish, german, sweedish, irish, mexican and something else i can never remember. I know several people from field workers to doctors that have spent years trying to become legal citizens and came over legally and i know illegals that are afraid to go home (not just mexicans) because of how corrupt thier goverments are.
