Spokespersons for Left and Right

Pat Buchanan is not a racist and he had a black female running mate the last time he ran for president.

Your point about the Democrats trying to improve the lives of individuals is highly debatable and universal health care has lots of problems and when it was put to the senate back in the 90's all the Democrats voted against it, including John Kerry.

When did I call Buchanan a racist? :blink

And yes that was in the 90's... if you reread my post I talk about what a party is doing now as apposed to what it may have done in the past... (point 1 of my rant says this specifically) is that what a Party is... and what a party was might not, and usually is not the same thing....

More to the point of the thread...

There is no good spokeman for either party. Never has been and never will be. It's too subjective. Read and listen to everything you can. Sift through it... it's kinda like panning for gold... After a while of shifting though crap you get a nugget of truth.

I think you'll find that most of the people who voted against universal health care are still around today. In fact, this is one area where Kerry and Dean disagreed on, and the Democrats didn't nominate the person who advocated free health care. So this was in 2004, it's now 2006. Have they changed alot since then?

That's partially my point.... Free health care seems to be a party issue, only to a degree... I hear Democrats say that they wish free health care was on the table... but certain individuals keep on knocking it down... I have never heard a republican vote for free healthcare... but that may be because I haven't looked into it enough...

And when did I call Buchanan a racist?

I suppose you didn't call Buchanan a racist, sorry, though you said Andrew Jackson was a racist and then your next line was that Buchanan was a extreme republican or whatever, I thought you were implying he was a racist. He gave a speech in 2000 where he said "we need to take back our streets" and the NAACP got upset and accused him of being a racist for saying "our" when only 4 years earlier, Bill Clinton said the exact same thing.

Health Care is a tricky issue and I would like to see free health care for everyone, our system is messed up. However even in places like France (whom the World Health Organization says has the best health care) there are problems. Canada has free health care and their system is just as bad as ours.

Most politicians know it's not as easy as just saying "let's switch to freee health care and everything will be alright".

Gotcha... yeah I agree... and yes I was saying that Buchanan was an extremely right wing type of guy, but not so much that he was a racist... and yes, simply saying "Free Healthcare" is far to simplistic...

and back to the topic...

I agree with Dark, in that:

Some are better than others, but... yeah... I agree with this for the most part

I guess I sort of agree with that then.

Sort of.

If you're a fiscal conservative and have some other "conservative" traits like I do, you might find the South Park guys to be pretty damn funny.

If you're a liberal you might think John Stewart is funny. By the way, Buchanan was on the Daily Show and it was one of the best interviews I've seen in a long time. (off topic: Buchanan was also accused of being an anti-semite because he said Jews have too much power in the U.S. but I like him for his isolationist fiscal outlook).

Bill Clinton was a pretty good spokesman for moderate Democrats, wasn't he? He's far better than most pundits.

I think we are seeing eye to eye on this (Really Buchanan said that???)
