Not sure. Someone less lazy should look that up. But I doubt it cost us anywhere near what the war's costing.

i'm honestly surprised that 9/11 and the following "war on terror" hasn't been cited as a *possible* reason for the fiscal difference between clinton & bush's presidency... is it just me, or might that have something to do with it!?  :blink  :erm

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

You are correct, it's a major difference.

And the Dark is correct as well, but Bush should have to pay for the Tsunami and New Orleans because his wreckless environmental policies single handidly caused the Tsunami and Hurricanes. At least that's what I read at Democratic Underground.

By the way, my theory is that Bush tried to kill all the democrats with the hurricanes so he would have less people voting against republicans. I noticed there was a small earthquake in Japan today, Bush had something to do with it - I know it.

It is also my theory that Scott Peterson is a Democrat getting a raw deal. Bush obviously does not like abortions and notice how one guy blows up a building and supposedly special ops can't find the culprit yet Peterson kills only one person and he is found right away. So according to Bush it is ok to kill 3,000 people but you can't perform one muder/illegal abortion.

Plus you have the a-hole republicans doing everything in their power to keep someone with was basically braindead (Terri Schiavo) alive and yet Bush did absolutely nothing to keep Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi alive, probably because he is Muslim. Nice one, Bush. And Al-Zarqawi was found in a safehouse, what part of SAFE does Bush not understand? It should be like the goal in a game of tag, it's not cool to tag people when they are on goal, it's also not cool to drop bombs on one legged terrorists when they are in a safehouse.

That's my rant for today.

85 BILLION for Katrina aid? Gosh. That's not a typo, then?

Posted

Yes, 85 Billion. And yet.. people still bitch the Bush did nothing.

One would think that the illegal wire tapping would've been more than enough to impeach Bush but apparently not. The repulicans have come across as a very hypocritical party. I could list examples but right now I'm not awake enough to go through the list.

Posted

It has not actually been determinded that the wire tapping is illegal. It's a rather gray area the program is operating in. Until the Supreme Court decides, thats still up in the air.

Posted

Also... for the most part.. as much as the press and the ACLU are tossing a fit about the wiretapping... the general populace of the USA is for it. Or so the press is bitching about.

The bitching is because he did shit until after the fact. The bitching is because the people he appointed to head FEMA and Homeland Security sucked at their jobs.

So... he was sopposed to ear mark billions of dollars "just in case"?

I think this is partially true. Did anyone happen to see the A&E documentary about Katrina? After seeing it, I don't blame Ray Nagin or George Bush as much as I blamed the Governor (forget her name) she was a democrat, Ray Nagin was a democrat - and all they did was fight with eachother before and after the hurricane.

That's not to excuse Bush, who did seem to ignore some of the warnings. Some have even placed some blame Clinton, who failed to approve funding that would strengthen the levees way back in 1999.

In addition, I put alot of blame on the "victims". They were told to leave, many simply refused to go. Many were offered busses out and said things like "I've lived thru every hurricane, this won't be any different". There was even partying in nightclubs (shown on the documentary) the night before the hurricane while all the radios and TV's were warning of impending doom.

I put a lot of the blame on her too. I have met 5 truckers that contracted with FEMA. They were stopped at the border and told they were not wanted. They were bring FEMA aid stuff.. blankets, drinking water, cots and such... The idiot govenor refused for days to let federal relief in... as it was her territory.

I think her name is Kathleen blanco? Does that sound right?

Anyway yeah, they covered that in the documentary too. FEMA wanted to take over the relief efforst right away but had to go thru red tape and the Governor simply refused to let FEMA do what they wanted to do until like a week later.

I think everyone should rent the DVD, they have it at blockbuster, it will help understand what went wrong. The blame is big enough to go around to pretty much everyone involved.

That's kinda how civil defense and emergency preparedness works isn't it?

Posted

No. Civil Defense and Relief stuff was stocked piled. It was on trucks waiting to go in... see the above posts to see why it didn;t get there on time. The 85billion was for rebuilding what was destroyed. And before anyone brings it up.. NOONE had any idea it was going to be this bad.

Also.. everyone focuses on New Orleans and the poor black people that got left behind.

Did you know the parts of Luisianna that got hit the hardest... got wiped clean off the map were populated by WHITE PEOPLE. Did you know there is a whole county/Parish that was completly... not a damn thing left, destroyed. No black people lived there.

What about the first 20 miles from shore in Mississippi? All of that got wiped off the map. That was mostly white people.

Everyone focuses on the poor black people that refused to leave New orleans... and honestly.. they got off easy compared to a grat many people. And they had 900 buses waiting to take them out.. if only Nagan would have let someone drive the buses.
