The_Dark Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 Libertarians base thier ideals on minimal federal government.
phee Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 O'Rielly is (luckely) not considered a Journalist... or there would be Journalistic integrity problems.... He is just a pundent that makes shit up...
Blackmail Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 I'm probably closer to libertarian than anything, but they base their whole deal on guns and I was never really committal on gun control. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Didn't you say you wanted to tax the upperclass in one thread? I may be misquoting you and if I am, I am sorry. However that is contrary to a Libertarian viewpoint, if you did say it.
Blackmail Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 O'Rielly is (luckely) not considered a Journalist... or there would be Journalistic integrity problems.... He is just a pundent that makes shit up... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> i used to like him too. Then he became a characture of himself.
phee Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 i used to like him too. Then he became a characture of himself. Yup
The_Dark Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 as libertarians are against taxes in general... and social programs.
phee Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 as libertarians are against taxes in general... and social programs. Yes... I am guessing here... but BrassFusion seems to lean towards socialist... but I could be waaaaayyyy off...
BrassFusion Posted June 8, 2006 Author Posted June 8, 2006 Didn't you say you wanted to tax the upperclass in one thread? I may be misquoting you and if I am, I am sorry. However that is contrary to a Libertarian viewpoint, if you did say it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Taxes have to come from somewhere, and the rich are better equipped to afford it. You're probably right that I'm socialist. Socially, though (ironically!) I have a lot in common with those pesky libertarians.
The_Dark Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 If taxes have to come from somewhere... what did we do before 1913?
The_Dark Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 ans what exactly do you have in common with Libertarians?
BrassFusion Posted June 8, 2006 Author Posted June 8, 2006 Americans were taxed before 1913. It may have only been at the county level, but there was still a tax. And tax in general has been around a whole lot longer than that in other parts of the world. What I have in common with libertarians is that I believe personal freedoms should supercede most every other concern. That *should* be easy to accomplish, because true personal freedoms affect only the person that practices them. Many government bodies don't feel the same way I do. Vis, "Click It or Ticket."
The_Dark Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 There were no Federal Taxes before 1913, not in this country anyway. We only had State level income tax. It's one of the things this country was founded on.
BrassFusion Posted June 8, 2006 Author Posted June 8, 2006 Thank you for reiterating what I just said. Now I can be absolutely 100% sure that I said it. P.S. They also had property taxes, not just based on income.
Blackmail Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 <----- *guilty* <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I listen to it also.
creatureofthenyte Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 Is there anyone on the board we could really apply the label conservative to and have it stick? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hey, guess what ! I, am neither liberal Or Conservative. I am neither left or right, or inside or outside, or inside-out, forward or backward. I think I am one of the few that can't yet be pinned to any specific label. Well maybe one. I am a free thinker! The big problem with politics today, is that the people that we elect into government, are more interested in what they can get out of it for them, and if we're lucky, they Might actually do what we elected them to do, which is serve us, the constituants. But anyway, in my opinion, FOX news, not the local area stations, sucks big floppy donkey balls. They are like a sounding board for whatever political stance they are affiliated with. They report the news, but it is done through the red state rose coloured glasses that they wear invisibly. If you keep in mind that the journalist(s) are biased, then you should be ok, but if it just soaks into your mind and you believe every word verbatim, well that would be a bummer.
Scary Guy Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 Fox news is made up of a bunch of right wing nuts. If you were to x-ray it you'd see George W.'s hand bone structure up it's rectum. That's right you heard me I said he's got his hand up it's ass like the pupet master he is. BTW http://gprime.net/video.php/foxoncanada is a great example. Wow they really hate Canadians.

Are you a star-bellied sneech or non-star bellied sneech?
Msterbeau Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 I don't like Fox. The few times I've watched it felt more like (bad) entertainment then a news program. The pundits are lying, conservative jerks. They push Rupert Merdoch's conservative corporate agenda. They suck. Now let me tell you how I really feel... To be fair... I really don't like ANY of the big corporate news channels/programs. They all feel more like entertainment then news. They all use the cult of personality to get you to watch their "star" anchors. Like Anderson Cooper... What a self-important putz. They all use annoying marketing gimmicks and mind games with their content to get people to keep watching. "Stay-tuned for a story you won't believe!!!!" Yeah right.. Oh... and I don't really watch TV anymore... So maybe they've changed. Bwwahahahahahahahahahhaaaaa!!! I like to make myself laugh. :-)
Msterbeau Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 Yay NPR And any other media outlet that doesn't treat me like a 5 year-old child.
