The_Dark Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 Property taxes are again.. a state level thing. Brassfusion... where did the federal government get it's money before Federal taxes. Lets be clear here... we are not talking about State Taxes or State governments, so stop clouding the issue by bringing up state level stuff. You stated the Taxes had to come from somewhere. Where did the federal government get it's revenue before 1913?
The_Dark Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 NPR is ok, but leans far to the left. What we need is a neetral news source.
Destroit Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 See, I'm a news/weather channel junkie, I can't go for a whole hour at a time without checking the headlines and the weather. The trick to getting a good well-rounded idea about an event happening in the world (especially pertanent to any info coming out of Iraq) is to watch a bias republican channel and one that favors democrats after. See like, first I consult MSNBC news and hear what they have to say about it, and then I'll flip over to Fox News just to hear their take on the matter, because no matter what channel you watch they're always going to put a spin on the story. Fox news does suck and alot of their articles make me mad sometimes because of their bias, but I've had just as many news articles on MSNBC piss me off just as bad for being so fanatically left-wing. For every article Fox has against, I dunno say gay people for instance, MSNBC has one that literally FORCES tolerance down your throat and tries to even make you feel bad for being straight sometimes. Not that there's anything wrong with tolerance, and I'm not homophobic, my roommate is gay actually, but I honestly believe that since we live in America (and this is where all of you are going to disagree :fear ) but if you really really don't feel comfortable with a certain group of people you should have the right to hate them. I mean, if you aren't physically hurting anyone by doing so (who cares about feelings, they're for wussies ) and you aren't, you know, burning crosses on their front lawn, vandalizing their property, or spray painting "fag" on their minivan, in your own mind you should be allowed to disagree with that group. So even though republicans hate way way way too much for no apparant reason, I'm just as sick of hippy liberals expecting everyone to have rainbows and kittens and flowers flying out of their assholes 24/7. That's why I'm done with both parties, since they're both just as shitty but in equal and opposite ways, and month ago I officially renounced my republicanness (just because of how crazy and fanatically religious it's become in what seems like just the last few years. I myself am Christian, but people like Jerry Farwell are fucking ridiculous and there should never be laws passed based on religious beliefs in a free country.) So now I'm with the green party.

I think I see what you are saying... That is the difference between tolerance (putting up with it) and approval (saying it is OK, and such)
Msterbeau Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 I'd agree that getting news from a variety of sources is a good idea. I don't think NPR is that slanted towards liberals... not the regular news programs like Morning Edition and All Things Considered, anyways. And what I do like about them is their depth. I've said this before... show me one prime time news program, especially radio that does a 7 minute story on ANYTHING. You're lucky if they give you 30 seconds. And I'll say it again... News on TV has turned into entertainment... It's bullshit and it sucks.

I am to assume that in the 19th century, states tended to be more autonomous. So what? Now what the fuck does this have to do with anything? What the fuck crawled up your ass, seriously?

Please play nice (EVERYONE).... I kind of felt like I was running a daycare yesterday *sigh*
The_Dark Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 You claimed to hold Libertarian views at the same time saying you wanted to tax the rich. Trying to understand you. You don't make sense. Nor do you seem to understand how our various government institutions run let alone the political partys involved.

Nor do you seem to understand how our various government institutions run let alone the political partys involved. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Clearly, I don't hold ALL libertarian views... I'm sure not many people do. However, a libertarian government would still need tax dollars to survive, be they from the state level or federal... IT DOESN'T FUNDAMENTALLY MATTER.
The_Dark Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 Yes, it does matter. Taxation without Representation is unconstitutional. We, the people, are not directly represented in the Federal government and therefore can not be taxed by the federal government. At least, thats how the country was setup. In 1913 we changed that when we went away fromt he gold standard. If your above statement is true about taxes... How did the federal government function before 1913? There was no form of federal tax before then.
The_Dark Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 A Libertarian government would get it's funds from other sources as this country did pre-1913.
phee Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 A Libertarian government would get it's funds from other sources as this country did pre-1913. Indeed... Tarriffs, Trade Agreements, Some Slavery?
phee Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 Slavery would have gone under tarrifs I think. I guess it would woudn't it?
The_Dark Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 well, yeah... there would be a tarrif for importing the slaves... a tarrif for transporting them across state lines...

It seems like you think libertarians support the ideal of a society that is completely tax-free, and that's why it's impossible that I identify at all with libertarians. I'd love for you to repeat my statement about taxes that you're basing this line of questioning on.
