I don't think it's a question of evolution but I do feel it's a question of good taste. And I think people are nuts if they think they're making any statement by having hairy armpits other than "I've some hairy-ass armpits". I mean it's not that fucking serious.

Shaving is a pain in my ass, but I do it anyway because culture has conditioned me to be nervous if they're unshaven and someone might see them. Same with my legs.

Razors also cost money.

Therefore, I'm investing time and money to conform to a bullshit cultural standard that's only enforced by a select few assholes.

I wonder if, in 500 years, those same assholes will enforce cosmetic surgical body modifications because the natural appearance of whatever we're altering is "icky."

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If you think society's standers are bullshit then don't follow them. Society is stupid anyhow.

However if you want to be accepted and fit in one has to play their game, and even then that's not a guarentee of acceptance. There have been a few good original Twilight Zone's on the subject.
