Splintering the Reublican Party?

Personally, I'd like to see both parties self-destruct. Don't let the Democrats fool you, they're just as power-hungry and greedy as the Republicans.

I'm not sure I can disagree with that. I'd like to see people run on their own merits and get rid of money in the voting/political process.

How about the issue of stem cells?

True... but they don't seem that way because they have lost so often as of late...

Fuck that. Immortality pills are on the way.

where is my free head! I would vote for any party that provided that...

I think we should round up all the stem cells and ship them back to their own countries.

That would be the Paperhearts party of New Hampshire

It would be nice if they said what the Stem Cell bill was about. I personally don't find the Stem Cell issue to be all that complicated... It's just that so many people are ignorant about it and feel no need to research it. Just so people are not ignorant of it here...

THERE IS NO BAN ON STEM CELL RESEARCH.

There is a ban on Federal Funding to Fetal Stem Cell research.

The only progress that has been made in Fetal Stem Cell research are new and interesting ways for lab animals to get cancer and die.

All the real medical benefitts from Stem cell research have come from Embilical and Adult Stem Cell research.

I would be all for Federal funding of Fetal Stem Cell research if there was a companion law that outlawed Embryo farming.

Posted

Current legislation restricts research to the existing stem cell lines, correct? There are very few and more would be benficial to overall research I believe is one of the debates going on...

Posted

That would be wrong.

There are no restrictions currently on research... only on funding. The only restriction on funding is a ban on all federal funding to fetal stem cell research. There is no ban on private funding of fetal stem cell research.. and the last figure I read put private funding at $800 million per year for Fetal Stem Cell research. The Federal Government, before then ban on funding, only gave about 1.3 million a year in funding for fetal stem cell research because it, of the three types, shows the least progress. It's constantly called the most promissing... because the cells mutate into whatever you want so easy... but we cant control it at all and it always leads to cancer cells.

Again.. THERE IS NO BAN ON STEM CELL RESEARCH OF ANY KIND.

As for stem cell lines... there are plenty of them in the Adult or Embilical varieties... but only a few Fetal.

but we cant control it at all and it always leads to cancer cells.

uummm... :blink :whistling

That animal is made of cancer

And it's the embryonic (fetal) lines that are most important from what I've heard/read. Those are the one's necessay to produce clone cells from.

I need to read more. No time tonight.

What's wrong with embryo farming? :whistling

Maybe we should research ways to make it less... well... offensive to religious types?

Posted

Because we dont need to farm them.. infact... with the science we have now we dont need embryos at all... even for embryonic stem cell research. The great people at the University of Wisconsin have derived a way to create embryonic stem cells without ever having to kill a baby. Yes, I said baby... don't like that... to bad. I beleive life begins at conception, not the moment you decide if your having an abortion or not. And guesse what... that has nothing at all to do with religion... I believed that when I was an athiest.

Noone hears about this kinda thing... The Pro-killing babys people push this kinda thing out of the press and make sure very people people hear about it. Again... don't like that statement.. too bad. I think most of the push for embryonic stem cell research is by the Pro-Abortion people.

OK... So why would people push for "traditional" stem cells if there's a viable alternative out there?

Posted

I thought I had covered that... The Pro-abortion groups push that info into the back ground because it.. in a way... hurts thier cause.

Posted

The pro-abortion cause was around way before we knew about stem-cell research. The only thing embryonic stem cell research bans do is render aborted embryos useless. I find that very sad that people reject even the possibility of medical progress because it makes them feel a "hurt hurt boo-boo in their hearty-wearty."

Heh, awesome, I guess he took me off ignore. Or he just never had me on in the first place. Mark, did you know that up to 50% of pregnancies spontaneously abort before the woman even knows she's knocked up?

Posted

How does the fact that there was a pro-abortion movement before stem cell research have any affect on the fact that they are one of the major players in this game? To them it's a new tool to use in thier own war.

And yes, I knew that... I know a lot of information that has little to nothing to do with the conversation at hand.

My views on this have nothing to do with my religion. I beleive life begins at conception and that killing unborn babys so that old people can keep wasting my air for a few more years is wrong. Dieing of old age is natural... murdering a baby so that a woman can keep her figure is wrong. Just so your not confused... I am Pro-Choice... I just find that far too many women get abortions for stupid selfish reasons and the way the laws are now it devalues life on a whole.

No, your still on ignore.. sometimes I choose to read your posts to remind myself why your on ignore. Yep, still the same... well... describing you breaks all the rules.

I know you're gonna read this, compadre.

1. Spontaneous abortions happen so often that I (personally) put little value on a zygote. How can you get so attached to one if odds are it's just going to die anyway? They aren't the most stable of life forms- they have no independence or sentience or life essence or soul or whatever you want to call it. All it is is potential life.

And that's how the figure matters. To me.

2. No one has ever had an abortion simply to further the cause of stem cell research. I feel very confident in saying this.

3. It would take a rare breed of psycopathic cunt to want an abortion for no other reason than to keep her figure. Would you really want that person to have children?

Didn't think so.

4. It doesn't sound like you're pro-*choice* so much as... well... I'm not sure. How does one fairly legislate abortions? If you're going to allow them for deep personal reasons such as, "I would be an unfit mother," how do you turn anyone else down?

5. As for the devaluation of life... your God took care of that long before we started shoving wire hangers up our cootchies. To me, a fetus has no value whatsoever until

a. Someone loves it for any reason or no reason at all, or

b. It smiles.

So an 8-month old fetus may fit neither stipulation, but in my creed of baseless violence, 8 months is too late in a term. A woman should make the decision in the first or second trimester if she's going to do it at all. You gotta arbitrate it somewhere, right?

I'm thinking I'm going to be moving to AZ, soon! Can't wait! I friggin' love it here! The heat doesn't bother me at all and the best part? NO SNOW!!! (S.N.O.W. - Shit  No One Wants)   Been staying in Bullhead City where the kids and grandkids live. Next, we're going to the wife's cousin's which is a ways North of Kingman, in the middle of nowhere, where we actually plan to move.   I really like Bullhead. It's a nice little town. Not overcrowded like Colorado Springs has become, at all. Very light traffic, reasonable prices on everything, low taxes, etc. The river offers a lot to do, with a lot of beaches and campgrounds all around it.   But yeah even though we've been over 110º-115º F just about every day,  I can handle it!  What I can't handle anymore, is snow and being cold. Just tired of it. Give me the desert over a blizzard any day!

Nope, we wasn't doing anything. I didn't want to go by myself.  I ended up doing karaoke here. It would of been a perfect day to go, though.
