What drew you to the goth subculture?

I'm just curious, while I may be stirring things up a bit, its certainly not a personal attack on anyone in particular.

It seems that there is a general lack of interest in today's "goth" scene of the origins of the subculture.

Also, not to categorically stereotype, but it just doesn't seem like the ideas of most Western religions (or Wicca for that matter) and the roots of the subculture mix in any way, shape or form.

Nihilism seems to be more of a philosophical match with the goth-punk roots of the scene.

Again, its not an attack...merely curiosity.

How do you rationalize this with your concept of the Universe?

Rationalize what exactly?

Rationalize that the origins of the scene were formed on the concept of destroying Western culture which is deeply rooted in Judaic-Christian religion.

Nice one Steve.

Goth was just another flavor of punk, that's true. In the UK, where "New Romanticism" started, punk was...sort of Hooliganism's reaction to Thatcherism, in music...goth was just a bit more consistantly Nihilistic punk or 'New Wave'...it became a thing eventually and then people started conciously making "goth" music.

Truthfully, a lot of it sucked then just as a lot of the things nowadays suck.

I don't say I'm a goth because I think it's ridiculous sounding. I just like rock and roll...and that period is just interesting to me for whatever reason...it's just what I like.

I don't listen to ANY of the new "goth" music or new "punk". I find it all sucks. The new music I like is all just plain indie rock stuff.

I remember hearing an interview with one of the guys from Spinal Tap on rock and he listed the Panama Canal as being one of the things that inspired the appearence of rock music...and so that's what i'll list too.

The Panama Canal.

lol...

Thanks dude...you know me, no matter how many 14 year olds look at me and say "yuppie", I'm a punk rocker at heart and always will be.

I like the fact that there are alot of different styles when it comes to gothic. I like the darkside cause it rocks. And the fact I am a psycho, being gothic works.

Any artistic movement to actually have validity must have something driving it... be it a philosophy, a shared goal, a need to change...

A lot of the NuGoth, really seems to be missing this foundation in my opinion...

I am in complete agreeance.

What drew me to it? I don't know and can't really explain it, though a list of possible reasons is available.

Maybe it was the fact that I've been into vampires since the age of four.

Maybe it was the hot goth chick on the buss that took me home after OakTech in high school (the one that gave me my name).

Maybe it was the fact that I was an outcast in high school.

Maybe it was Type O Negative (yeah yeah, they're not goth, think whatever you want, I'm still right).

Maybe it was my first trip to City Club (or Labyrinth, the more goth oriented club in those days).

Maybe it's the fact that my mom was a goth when she was 9 and even though she will never admit to it that it's in my blood.

Maybe it's the fact that I like the music, art, movies, and general culture of it (even if most of the kids don't even have a clue what Goth is).

Maybe it was a combination of all of these.

Whatever the reasons I am who I am, and I'm happy with the way things turned out and what I've become.

i'll go with hot goth chicks.

loved the reaction i got from people when i used to goth up

watched way to much beetlejuice cartoons, and seeing the film at an early age during changes had an effect on me

some of the old goths of the area were easy to wind up, torment, and manipulate for my personal enjoyment

maybe i just loved the fasions (still on lookout for that one great gothmobile)

Vinyl.

Goth or not I still love it. To all the hot women: Can I lick your vinyl?

(And I'm refering to the clothing fabric, not records.)

Do not awaken the dragon named Chan, he will destroy you!

I think it is you Chan, who should tread more cautiously. Obviously you are unaware of the power of our wit. Your dragon shall be barraged with thoughts that are beyond your comprehension. In your state of confusion, the dragon will be slain. Beware Chan, beware!

Yeah, that's what I get out of him. Kind of a goth monk or something. I'm not worried about him, I can just take one look at him and know that i can beat his ass, if it comes down to that.
