BrassFusion Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 Yep. At least my Uncle Adrianne, who believes that HIV was created by the U.S. government to kill gays and black people, used to send me huge envelopes of hard-copies of circumstantial evidence. He also plays bluegrass music and is no longer welcome into Canada. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So people who have no firm beliefs are supposed to root around for evidence JUST to support their right to be noncommital? What kind of screwed up crazy world are we living in, exactly? And I'm not sure what your website proves. Who appointed the members of the commission?
sinmantyx Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 So people who have no firm beliefs are supposed to root around for evidence JUST to support their right to be noncommital? What kind of screwed up crazy world are we living in, exactly? And I'm not sure what your website proves. Who appointed the members of the commission? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, I guess I could be noncommital about whether or not the chair of my department is having an affair with the secretary and they are pilferring money from the lab fee funds with the help of the lab manager who is actually their illicit sex slave. If you are entertaining conspiracy theories and throwing around accusations, you should have a damn good reason. The web site proves that there was a great amount of transparancy in the process. Any sort of conflict of interest within the commission could be investigated by any literate person with a computer and an internet connection. What I find kinda scary is people entertaining wild theories without looking into the matter themselves. Anything is "possible", so without actually doing research I guess you could be noncommittal about everything. However, that's not what actually happens. People act on what they feel is the most likely senario based on their general attitude. (i.e. anything anti-government must be more likely than anything pro-government or vice versa.) I feel the same way about those that want to play armchair quarterback with the conflict in Iraq currently, including my own Union who (despite my protests) passed a resolution that "we" supported withdrawl from Iraq within an arbitrary time frame --- reality be damned! Most of my Union of TEACHERS don't know shit about warfare, the current Middle-East political situation, or what the real consequences might be of us leaving a huge power vacuum in a country we just crippled...and those that had half a clue, realized they didn't have an entire clue, and thought the resolution was wreckless and deluded our organization's purpose --- which is to act on issues we actually DO know about. *grrrr* Sorry....end rant.

I was throwing around possibilities. And as a teacher, I hope you agree that it's good to question the unquestionable. I'm a teacher, too.
torn asunder Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 Man, in the age of google you'd think that you would have found this. Just click on each member of the commission for a bio. Neat huh? honestly, i don't care about this enough to research it - i was strictly commenting on a theoretical assumption taken from that post. having not researched this at all, i've reached no firm conclusions about any of it, but i assume anything might be possible...
sinmantyx Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 I wasn't throwing around accusations. I was throwing around possibilities. And as a teacher, I hope you agree that it's good to question the unquestionable. I'm a teacher, too. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> True true. HAHA...you're a teacher too, that totally explains a lot. (And I mean that in a good way!)
gorfgirl Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 She's a band teacher... which explains even more. Take that how you choose.
BrassFusion Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 Who I am is none of your business. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, since a critical opinion of who I am is clearly YOUR business... Why not?
gorfgirl Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 because I have not posted enough for you to have formed an opinion of me... you on the other hand have posted a fair amount... and from what I have seen.. well... your body of work speaks for itself.
Scary Guy Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 because I have not posted enough for you to have formed an opinion of me... you on the other hand have posted a fair amount... and from what I have seen.. well... your body of work speaks for itself. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It really doesn't take much posting for people to form an opinion. You don't even need to post at all and people can form opinions just based on screen names. "That my friend is a matter of opinion and I don't give a shit about yours" - just an excelent quote from "From Dusk Till Dawn" Then again no one really cares about my opinions, so carry on as this thread is entertaining. Just remember to play nice. Seems like it's getting a bit heated.
BrassFusion Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 It really doesn't take much posting for people to form an opinion. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hear hear. Yeah, I can't really jive with people who don't know me personally and diss the hell out of me because they're some jerk's girlfriend or whatever. Much less dissing music education in general. That's just sad.
sinmantyx Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 I would apologize for attributing to the highjacking of the 9/11 thread; but the pun is much too distastefull.
