Help Us Get The Word Out !

MySpace, LiveJournal, Wherever

If you could place a link to DGN on the "front page" of your website that would be helpful. (people typcially never see a link buried 5 pages deep in a website) But, the more links the better for search engine reasons is great.

Also making an entry in your Journal / Website / Myspace page suggesting that pepeople come check us out would be great!

Please put us at the top of the friends list or its virtually pointless. Also if you could make a post in your blog suggesting people come check us out and/or use some of the DGN link to images in your "interests" section that would help us greatly. =)

Awesome!! Now there's THREE links to DGN on my myspace, the banner under 'interests', a link under 'Final Bits of Info' and the last one under 'Other things to do' :D

Troy - Is DGN in the MySpace groups? I put the first link at the top of my MySpace page, but if there is a group as well, I want to join it so it pops up in my list of Groups.

I'm not totally sure what a "myspace group" is actually. Well, rather i'm not sure how it would help us. Seems like the kind of thing people should be doing ON DGN not on MySpace right? Its almost taking away traffic from DGN not adding to it.

Right. That's pretty much what it is. A group is a message board that is really similar to a forum. So, Troy you're right, I think it would distract from DGN more than coax people to join.

Though, on the contray, it COULD help. We could make a group, but have something like this for a heading:

"If you are looking for Detroit area oriented Gothic info,events or have a similar interests, come and introduce yourself to the DetroitGothic.Net network!!"

And have that entire header a link to here. Nothing more in the group other than that on the page. It could open up a door to myspace users wondering about michigan area goth. Whatcha think?

The incomming links from other websites seems like it SHOULD be MySpace that is sending us the most traffic since like 80% of the board is on myspace. Need to get them banners in a visible spot methinks.

I wouldn't discourage links in hard to find, "hidden" places, as they still contribute to Page Rank on Google. Particularly for topic relevant sites (goth resource pages, bands, radio stations, etc). They may not yield many direct hits to this site, but they will boost your Google Page Rank, which will yield direct hits. Really, you should be pushing people to post links to your site on every page they possibly can.

If you want to use Myspace to your advantage, make an "official" DGN account, and use it to post bulletin updates, changes, and so forth, with direct links back here. And then ad the shit out of people from the Detroit area. My experiences with advertising on Myspace have shown that you get almost all traffic from links in Bulletins, but simply not many on any part of the profile. However, I suspect if you had a lot of people posting links on their profiles, you may get a trickle of hits as a result.

Good advice. If i came off as saying "dont link to us unless its a big huge easy to find link" i was in error. I think i should re-word that somehow.

I've been meaning to make it more active and use it in a more promotional way but theres just SO much crap on my plate at any given time this aspect of it hasnt gotten up the priority ladder yet.

I have the DGN group photo from one of the Freak Friday Karaoke nights. and in the caption I have 'DGN' as the link back here. Also, I'm going to put the 'friend us on myspace button' on my myspace right below the DGN buttons. Hehe.

Seems like a good idea to me. How about you start it up and then give me admin access to it also so i can tweak stuff if i want.
