Is It Ever Ok. . .

I'm pretty sure you were joking (at least I hope so), but I'm surprised at how many parents think this is an appropriate way to talk to their children.

It's nothing but laziness as a parent and I've seen the children obey like good little soldiers while the parent is watching but end up into everything as soon as they turn their back. These are the same kids who often end up in trouble when they get out on their own (if they are ever even able to support themselves) since they only learned to follow orders and never to reason for themselves. It's very easy to take advantage of someone who has never had the opportunity to develop self-discipline.

No amount of explaining would make anyone who hasn't ever met my oldest daughter understand her. She alone, is like parenting more than one kid at once. ... and I have three others.

I do the best I can with her, she is a VERY intelligent girl for her age. She understands and knows things a normal seven year old wouldn't ... but she has issues. Severe issues.

There is no issue with "because I said so" under certain circumstances... Generally it is only used if it has been explained ad nauseum before hand and they are arguing just to argue... they know why all to well, and explaining it again will get you nowhere...

I had a big problem with it until I had kids of my own.... Now I know... and knowing is half the battle GIJOE!!!

Right O Steve. Why not know as much as possable?

I mean I would only say to use it when there is danger to them, naturally.
