Smooth Move John....

Employment sucks and the job market is competitive. If you don't have job experience AND a degree AND other random bullshit credentials like nice hair and a rich family, odds are much better you'll enlist out of desperation and go join this bullshit pointless "war." And fuck, doesn't Kerry more or less have the right to say what he wants about the subject? Screw the White House. I'm proud of how he's handling this.

I could care less about the White House's reaction. And yeah, he's a vet, so I'd certainly give him a lot more latitude then non-vets... BUT, if the Dems want to win back the legislature, they don't need stupid controversies like this. A lot of people won't see it your way. Right or wrong, it sounds like he's insinuating that only losers join the military. The way his joke was *supposed* to be told doesn't sound much better.

Democrat or Republican, that was a stupid comment in any context.

The Democrat running for Congress in Iowa has already canccled John's apperance at his campaign rally.

ABC qouted a sitting Democratic Senator as say "He wasn't happy botching the 2004 election, so he is trying to botch the 2006."

So they're all trying to say they like it there? That they chose to be deployed instead of accepting one of 10 or 20 job offers they got right out of high school?

Exactly - its his right to speak his mind - but he does come off sounding like only losers join the military and as a vet I dont dig that. He reserves the right to say it, I reserve the right to say FUCK YOU John Kerry and word on the street is that other Vietnam Vets say your own wartime history has been gloriously re-written and did I mention FUCK YOU?

He didn't say that. What he said was that losers with no other options are practically forced to join the military because they won't be able to get a decent income doing anything else, and if they join the military, they'll be fucked over and sent to participate in a bullshit war that's going nowhere. That makes NO reference to people who enlist for personal or patriotic reasons- just the people who have no other choice in this economy.

Hell, I've thought about joining the army as a musician, and EVERYONE I MENTION IT TO echoes the same opinion, that my life could be wasted in a meaningless war. Why isn't a public servant allowed to hold the same "contraversial" opinion that almost all his constituents hold without getting blackballed? And you guys wonder why all our politicians are eggshell walking pussies.

Believe it or not... People join the military because they want to. I think what they are really trying to say though... well... it's a big "Fuck You, asshole" to Kerry.

He can. First, almost all his constituents have to hold the same opinion. Thats not the same thing as everyone you know telling you the same thing. You only know a small portion of the people in a large city that has a disconnect with the rest of the state.

Plus... John there represents one state and it's not our state. He does not represent the whole country. He fucked up getting that job.

All his constituents don't have to hold the same opinion on every topic, so I don't understand what you're getting at. Also, I do know more people than just Detroiters and all the ones I've talked to about it (even some republican friends) say the same thing.

So he represents one state where presumably the majority agrees with what he said. As for the 2004 election, HE didn't fuck up, the Nascar fans and soccer moms did.

You know, education -- if you make the most of it, you study hard and you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq.

Everyone else took it as him calling anyone that joins the military stupid and uneducated.

ugh.. you don't get it... YOU said it. No wonder people get rubbed the wrong way by you, you don't understand you.

You're reading more into what he said than what he actually said. And don't try to make it personal, I'm only being objective here.

maybe you should read this thread again and find where you got lost.

IMO whatever Kerry says about the Bush Administration, thats a cutdown,is OK with me.Bush sux

What I heard is that Bush was a chicken hawk anyway.

I personally have some relatives and friends in the military that would agree with Kerry

No shit. At least he finally apologized and backed out of "helping" other Dems.

Still dont dig the way it comes off, Brass.

And I still think it does a disservice to those who served their country.

And yoru right, maybe I'm reading too much into it.

But thats the point - he's a vet - and as a Vet these things can rub me the wrong way.

Look at it this way...

Bush created 104 more "job openings" for Americans due to his decisions in October...

Where has more damage been done?
