All I have to say is what I do at home is my own business,no one elses, and yes I will not lie on these forms, because they will find out sooner or later, its just like lying on an application for a job offer,it clearly states that.

I think it's hilarious that they signed the paper, and then got caught ON COMPANY PROPERTY.

Anyways, if the company I work for suddenly said that they had to increase health premiums on "higher" risk employees (smokers, obese, etc) or cut 10% of the workforce because they can't afford the insurance premiums that they're paying for the associates.... you can better believe that it would make me get off my fat lazy ass to do something about being obese (and for those who don't know me, I am actually considered MORBIDLY obese) and not have to pay the higher premiums.

This is interesting because how can they prove that they were smokers when they signed the paper? When I got hired in full time at a job I used to have, I was a non-smoker. Six or so months later I started smoking. I worked there over 4 years and never had to sign that form again...it was a one time deal....

I think its bullshit that they can basically stalk you...and figure out stuff like that. I bet if your employers checked up on all of your personal stuff, they could find something to fire you about. Have you ever committed a crime? Lets see, I watch bootleg movies sometimes, and occasionally if the lady at walmart gives me too much change I kept it, and sometimes I download music, I smoked Marijuana once.....where exactly is the line?

I believe that a company offers health insurance as a perk to its employee's. I don't pay more because I'm overweight, You might not pay more because your cholesterol is higher, and someone else shouldn't have to pay more because they smoke.

We'd all be fired if our employers could pick our lives apart.

And how did this happen anyways? Some secretary "um...I just noticed on this form that Bob said he wasn't a smoker, and uh...I just passed him outside smoking in his car......"

People are ridiculous. This is just yet another sign that the world is coming to an end.

IMO most insurance companies are nothing but thieve's

Insurance is for unexpected health issues.....

then why does it cover preventative care?

Health insurance is a benefit to cover the costs of health-care....regardless if it is unexpected or otherwise.

I think giving people a break for not smoking is promoting preventative care.....

That's the only way smoking related illness can be somewhat prevented.....

Smoking is a preexisting condition in the making.....

You took a small bit of what I said to be a fact of life, it's what I think.....

My main point being on this topic is they lied to save some cash.....

That's wrong, because that costs everyone more money in the long run.....

I agree, but we need insurance, so we have to play by their rules.

And if they really wanted to get away with lying, they shouldn't have been smoking on company property. I mean, duh...

Honestly, I still don't get it.

Are you advocating socialism or communism?

Your funny.

Honestly, I don't think health insurance should exist. In fact, I don't agree with insurance at all. I am against anything that gives the government and/or cooperations more power over our every day lives.

I agree with spook....

with all this talk of personal freedoms... if you choose to have more health problems from smoking, it would infringe on the freedoms of the nonsmokers by raising the premiums and making all the health care more expensive for everyone.... That sounds kind of socialist.

Keep it on topic please people....

perhaps another thread about the meaning of "truth"?

Great? Not tired or sleepy? No old wounds bothering you? Didn't sleep wrong and have a mild back ache? hay fever acting up mildly? Not miffed that I question your word?

More miffed that you would FORGET that absolutism is a philosophical no no...

So Miffed, Not Great. Nope, you never lie, not even little white lies.

Don't preach to me about absolutes... in the same conversation where you say "I NEVER lie."

No problem phee. I've made my point.

I agree with spook....

I was wondering what happened to my post but then I discovered it got moved to the "You Can't Handle the Truth" thread. Makes more sense over hear than it does over there.

They should not suspend these workers.

The boss should call them all into his/her office @ the end of the day Friday after work & say "Have you been smoking? Shame on you. Get out your packs--that's right, all of them. Now I'm going to sit here & watch you smoke every cigarrette in that pack one right after the other--that will teach you!"
