Gas and Cars

Yes, motorcycles are more dangerous than cars. That being said, most accidents are cause by cars, not by motorcyclists acting irresponsibly.

indeed, an oops didn't see you is to common.

its why i don't ride one just for work commute.

I've seen a couple of smart cars, there's a dealership near here, but I'm usually getting over 40mpg in my mini cooper, good enough for me!

I always wanted a Mini Cooper.

I bought a bike.....

No gas.....Just Person Power.....

I have seen allot more bikes around, and allot of 'for sale' signs on big vehicles.....

Ever since gas went up, I have seen several of those teeny "SMART" cars driving around.

Me personally, I have been using my mountain bike more. Biking around town is not as much work as people think it is, especially if you have everything available within a 5 mile radius. I am fairly lucky this is the case where I live. Also, we have a nice bike-path system so going to work in the mornings on a bike is not only do-able, but also a very pleasant ride as well!

I think as time goes on (and gas prices remain over $3.50 a gallon), we will see more and more scooters. When I was over in Italy last summer, the streets were littered with scooters all throughout the cities. It was funny to see someone in a very formal suit from head to toe riding a scooter to work! But over there, gas was already the equivalent of about $7/gallon and that was LAST summer. I can't even imagine what it is now. The last I heard, gas was almost $15/gallon in London (!). And we think $4 is bad here. Can you imagine $15/gallon???? Life would literally stop in the US.....

I see more carpooling as well and I think as time goes on, more & more people will be sharing rides. I have already been talking to people from my area who go to CC regularly & asked them if they would like to share rides. The more people we can squeeze in a car, the better, and everyone wins because people can share not only gas cost, but also wear/tear on their own cars as well.

It's my 4th car so far and I absolutely love it. I can't see myself switching to anything else in the future.

I_G_2000, I absolutely love my Scooter. In fact, I started filling it with 93 octane, partly because I worry about a knocking sound I heard at high revs (gone now), and... just because I COULD.

The problem with Hydrogen Fuel Cells is energy economy. It takes 1.5 units of energy to get 1 unit of energy out of a hydrogen fuel cell.

That means.. in the net... you are using MORE fossil fuels to run a Hydrogen fuel car.

my concerns exactly.

its a marketting ploy of late to prove to consumers that their going green.

just like the great paper recycling hoax, its quite the oposite

All right... I'll bite.

What do you mean by "paper recycling hoax"? Facts, figures, and please list the sources.

You're assuming the use of fossil fuels to produce hydrogen... which is the stupidest thing on earth to do. Until we find something better, the new breed of nuclear reactor is probably our best source of energy for the near future. Who knows, maybe we'll come up with a decent long term storage answer for spent fuel.

That... and stop using energy like it's free.

So did anyone catch this: Bacteria that make oil out of waste?

Marc,

You are right, a Nuke plant would be the perfect source of electricity for all most all of our needs. It would make Hydrogen fuel cells economical in the energy sense to produce. The problem is, we cant build new Nuke plants. So, as it stands, we have to use some other fuel souce to extract hydrogen to make the fuel cells. That process takes energy.. and it comes from fossil fuels.

Now, if we can get the Democrats to stop killing every bill to lift the ban on new nuke plants life mgith get easyer.

Ofcourse, it would help if the Democrats kept thier promise they made before the last election and lowerd the price of Gas. I find it funny, in a "laughter keeps the tears away" way, that one of thier big promises if we gave them Congress was to lower the price of Fuel... and it's damn near doubled since they took over.

Kinda explains thier lowest in the history on Congress approval ratings.

I think our government as a whole is in the lowest approval ever mode...

Promising lower prices.. That's just stupid. It sucks that gas is expensive but it's the only thing that's gotten people to wake up to using less... We are just way too wasteful of resources.

As soon as the nuke plant owners/developers assume liability for their plants, I'm all for it.

Ain't. 'Gon. Happen.
