Anti-smoking law in Michigan?

As far as the buy a gas mask argument?

Um... are you actually suggesting that people should have to go out of their way to protect themselves from your habit?

I guess if you felt like driving on the sidewalk its up to the pedestrians to carry there own pilons to protect themselves so as not to infringe on your right to drive on the sidewalk... I mean we don't want to take away the freedom of those that want to drive their humvees on the sidewalk! Whats next? taking away our right to set fire to trees? or maybe they will bring slavery back!

(eh you see my point)

I would not want my kids to think that smoking is a good idea, just like fucking on a playground is not a good idea.... so I would not want either in public.

But wouldn't that be your responsibilty to teach your children that smoking is bad Phee? I am a parent too and I have told my child smoking is bad (yes I know I still do it) and my child hates smoking.

It can be related to other bad activities that adults do even though they know it is harmfull. I took my child to see a movie the other weekend and the two main characters got shit faced on alcohol and I had a talk with her about it afterwards. I would not ask Hollywood to ban drinking scenes in movies so I don't have to worry about mine or someone elses child thinking it's ok behaviour. I talk to my daughter about things that are bad that I do not want her getting into and I tell her why. I don't need this government doing that for me nor forcing it on me.

Do you feel it's a good thing for our lawmakers to help you teach your children what's good and what's bad or would you rather do it?

I myself would rather NOT have some idiot in Lansing thinking they need to do my job for me by making laws.

This I agree with.... it is the parents responsability....

So let me ask you why is public sex not ok in the city park if smoking is....?

I am not talking about banning smoking... I am talking about getting rid of it in public places like parks where my kids go.... Public sex is banned for the same reason.... health or not, I would not want my kids to think that smoking is a good idea, just like fucking on a playground is not a good idea.... so I would not want either in public. In businesses that allow it, sure, at home or in your car... fine.... Why is your right to smoke more important than my right to not breath your smoke?

Fuckin' at the park ROCKS...I mean...in the middle of the night...when noone is around...

because my choice to smoke is not the be all and end all of the death cycle.

Why should I not be able to go and enjoy the park the same as you? because I am a smoker?

Hell, phee...I don't even inhale...I smoke because I like the look of smoke or because ppl around me are smoking!!

makes me worse then any other smoker...because I'm not even poisoning myself.

They don't ban the Sleeping Beauty series in libraries....what would happen if one of your kids ran off and found one of those?? There is graphic erotica in bookstores worldwide....they can find it there too.

Again...I applaud your wanting to protect your loved ones....but making it where your taking away my right to enjoy the park the same as you, where I am not exposing myself or drinking, or other such activities...thats not right either, because the air your breathing everyday is already toxic.

What NEEDS to happen is a set of adds on smoking RESPONSIBLY. I don't light up around kids unless their parents are smoking near them. If your parents aren't gonna light up around you, then I'm not going to either. Don't take away the right...just teach them the responsibility of HAVING the right.

You see, her perspective here is the only one that makes sense in this issue IMO... because it removes most of the hypocracy from the equation... Go Cher!

The point being if you are going to complain that your rights are being taken away as a smoker by not being allowed in public, then you have no right to complain when in the same public someone blares their radio, masturbates, shaves their pubic hair, or farts in your coffee.

you actually CAN'T get them to ban drinking scenes, because while it DOES imitate them drinking...it's not truely alchohal...because thats illegal. You can no longer legal film the consumption of alchohal in a movie....which odd to me because you can do it for "Intervention", as well as film the use of drugs.

Farting in my COFFEE!?!?!?...that's wrong.

What about those parents and people who don't bother to do this?

yeah....to PG, as long as it's not the ABUSE of alcohol...which then can go from PG-13 to R.

and yes phee...I completely understand your argument...but once this goes into effect...there will be more and more "laws" to protect the public...like the public restaurant weight restriction ban I mentioned earlier. You weight over 220 phee?

what would you think if a bunch of ppl thought that having to see you sit in at a table, eating a salad even, was detrimental to their right to enjoy their restaurant experience, simply because you were 235 lbs?

They are disrespectful...a law won't change that...they will be disrespectful in all their actions...for all their days.

I don't like those people.

Like I said... businesses should be able to determine their own rules.... I am talking more about public areas that are not businesses.

Well, I know that ... so far nothing has stopped them though. I know people who's kids have been hospitalized because of it (Asthma and other respitory related illnesses) and it still continues.

But Rayne:

Ahh... You have some real scientific evidence that second hand smoke is actually bad for you? I mean... you can sight some study that says without doubt that second hand smoke is as bad as some people like to say? Last I checked... there were none. Many that said "Maybe" but non that said "Yes". Also last I checked... Reasonable Doubt was part of our laws, not reasonable suspicion.

Can you?

At 6'6" I am 'supposed' (Dr.'s quote) about 235-250 (I DON'T)...but hypothetically..I can't goto a public restaurant???

We are getting stupider and stupider 'cause the choices are taken away...laws suck for Humanity.

The same can be said for a dusty house... Should we enforce severe dusting laws... What about Grill smoke? Or pollen? Axianty? My Mom burnt a roast once... my little brother almost died from the asthma attack the smoked caused.. should we outlaw my Mom's cooking?

You know as well as I do, that you can't prove a negative.
