pomba gira Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 My new little sweetie gecko, Kashmir the Leapin' Lizard! Getting her gentled down is going to be a challenge 'cos she JUMPS... right after these pix were shot she leapt from my hand to the floor. Apparently that whole fear of falling bit is a mammalian trait...

Apparently that whole fear of falling bit is a mammalian trait... What a pretty leopard gecko. My old room mate had one, and the lizard and I shared a strong bond, since my room mate worked a lot. I was the one who fed all of the animals most of the time, and "Spot" knew I was always good for a mealworm or two. He actually knew the sound of my voice, and would come up to the glass if he heard me in the room. Leopard geckos have such a wise, noble expression, very human. I've had a secret yearning for one of my own, all these years. When I break down and get a lizard, this species will be the one I start with-- as they are very hardy, and easy to care for.

pomba gira Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 Aw, thanks for sharing. Is she a leopard gecko? I don't think I've seen one with that coloring. Yup, she is a leopard gecko... and yeah, her coloring is a bit unusual, really a mix of the natural color and a solid tangerine/orange morph. I don't know names of most leopard gecko color morphs, but there's a few of them... for example Tokagemaru's tremper albino Linnea who is almost Da-glo in some lighting:
Guest greyhalo Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Here's a pic of my 2 Southern flying squirrels in their pouch. I originally thought they were boys, but I later found out that they're girls. I re-named them Dixie and Bijoux. Note my sneaky cat Odette in the left corner.
Homicidalheathen Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 ...I let a few spiders take up residence, does that count? I talk to them...

Rayne Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 (By the way, dogs and cats are not considered exotic pets. Sorry, guys.) Sure they can be. Granted, not ALL dogs and cats but some are. ex⋅ot⋅ic [ig-zot-ik] –adjective 1. of foreign origin or character; not native; introduced from abroad: exotic foods; exotic plants.
Brenda Starrr Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 I have an Indonesian Blue-Tongued Skink named Fluffy. , , Fluffy, eating organic cat food. , Fluffy, making his scary face.
Guest greyhalo Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Sure they can be. Granted, not ALL dogs and cats but some are. Vets don't consider them to be exotics. That's how I'm looking at it. Dogs and cats are very domsticated, whereas some of the other animals mentioned here are not.
StormKnight (1) Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 I would like to have a bunch of betta splendens. Dad used to raise them for a while, and it was fascinating to see labyrinth fish breed. I would have a few males in very large barracks in a community tank, and rotate them into the barracks every so often. I would also like to keep a variety of other fish in the tank. I estimate a 25-30 gallon tank would be nice, in acrylic and with an integrated filter system.

Brenda Starrr Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Fluffy is awesome, Bren! We love Fluffy! We bought him about 2 or 3 weeks before we got married. And he's sweet. Even my boy cats like him. We don't let the dogs near him, because they might mistake him for a wiggly chew stick.
GothicRavenGoddess (3) Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Ryuu is a Peterbald. I posted about him a while ago, when I was trying to pick a name for him. The short version of what a peterbald is: Description: Appearance Peterbalds have an elegantly slim build and distinctive head: narrow and long with a straight profile, almond-shaped eyes, and big set-apart ears. They are somewhat similar in appearance to Oriental Shorthair cats. They have a hair-losing gene and have very short hair. Their skin has the appearance of grey flannel and feels like a horse's muzzle. Temperament Peterbalds are usually sweet-tempered, peaceful, curious, smart and energetic. They love their family members and need to communicate with them; they are not a loner type of cat. Peterbalds typically live in harmony with other cats and pets, and also with children. They are not vindictive, and these characteristics make Peterbalds an excellent companion. History The Peterbald breed was created during the latter half of 1994 in St. Petersburg, Russia, the result of an experimental mating of a Don Hairless (also known as Don Sphynx, Donskoy or Donsky) male named Afinogen Myth and an Oriental Shorthair female World Champion named Radma von Jagerhov, by Russian felinologist Olga S. Mironova. The first two litters produced four Peterbald kittens: Mandarin iz Murino, Muscat iz Murino, Nezhenka iz Murino and Nocturne iz Murino. These four Peterbalds were the founders of the breed. In 1996, the breed was adopted in the Russian Selectional Feline Federation (SFF) and given a standard and an abbreviation (PBD). In 1997 it was adopted in The International Cat Association (TICA) with the abbreviation PB, and in 2003 in the World Cat Federation (WCF) with the abbreviation PBD. Other used handles of the breed are PBD, PTB, PD and PSX. These days the breed develops in the direction of modern Oriental and Siamese types, that is to say a long muzzle, large set-apart ears, flat cheekbones, and an elegant body on long legs. Therefore, all standards for this breed encourage mating with Oriental and Siamese cats and semi-longhair variations of those (such as Balinese and Javanese). The Balinese and Javanese were eliminated from the acceptable outcross list in 2005. The Peterbald was accepted for Championship class competition, effective May 1, 2009, in the American Cat Fanciers Association (ACFA) in August 2008. I have read that the going rate for a peterbald is $400-800. (That's if they aren't fixed, and depends on breeder, color, sex, and age) Black is a rare color for this breed. Most are gray, or tan (or a combo of the two). They only have one coat of fur. Either the long outer coat, or the short under coat. Never both. Ryuu has the short under coat. This breed is considered hairless. If this breed was meant to lose its hair entirely, they will lose it when they are still very young. Most kittens, of this breed WILL lose their fur.... Some will not. Ryuu has more hair than most of this breed, but he's still considered hairless. (and since he's fixed, he's not worth anything. But because his nether regions are't covered in fuzz, it looks like he still has his nads. lol SO when I can, I'm going to get him microchipped. lol) He's extremely smart. He's still young, so he's still got a lot to learn. He's very attached to me, and my room mates. He demands hugs, all the time. He gets a little carried away, sometimes, so he "loses" me... (forgets where I'm at) so he cries for me. He's definatly a lap kitty. And what little bit of fur he has, feels like very soft crushed velvet, no matter what direction you rub him. lol and he doesn't mind (in fact he loves it!) if you pet him in the "wrong" direction. Ya know ya hit the sweet spot, because he'll wrinkle his skin. lol Oh man, I wish you guys could meet him. Ah yes, he's also a VERY low allergy animal.

Scarecrow Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Well I was too lazy to read everything, but I did see all the adorable pets I have a chinchilla, dove, and cat...nothing to "exotic" per say, however I can't resist posting some pictures of them anyway... My cat, his eyes are bright but not this bright, they were enhanced (they are actually a lighter blue) My chinchin, and yes those are little poops (something she has a lot of) Sorry the pics are so large, but again I am too lazy to do anything about it...
Scarecrow Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 lol, I think you should post Starfire up...*nudge*
jynxxxedangel Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 You merely have to go to my gallery, to see my spiders. I currently have five Phidippus audax jumping spiders-- three subadult, and two adult. Three girls, and two boys. I'm so proud of them, as the three babies I raised from the size of pinheads. Culturing fruit flies for tiny spiderlings is a BITCH. I also have three wonderful children who wear cats' pyjamas.
Eevee Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Upon Jackal's request...I give you Starfire, one of my six kitties (and Jackal's favorite). These both, obviously, have enhanced his blue eye color.
