THis may seem a bit strange to non-musicians, but...when I went to CC on the last Sat. in July, I hadn't been there in 4 years. I was actually a bit distressed that I knew a large percentage of the songs played. I hope that the next time I'm there (1st Sat. in Sept.), the DJs just play the most bangin'-est shit they've heard in the last 6 months.

Then again, this may seem strange to musicians, too.

great vid pick, btw!

I know it's old, but I love it anyway: Frontline Assembly's "Millenium" & "Plasticity":

I also love Biotek's "Belief", but I can't find it anywhere online...that song frickin' rocks, everyone I play it for LOVES it immediately & asks for a copy. I found it originally on an old industrial music compilation I have at home. I have never heard this song played at CC, but if the DJ's would be willing to play it, I would happily bring them a copy next time I go!

Funker Vogt's "House of Sorrows" rocks too:

Love the band Plastic Noise Experience also. And any song (old or new stuff) by Hansel & Gretyl ("Third Reich from the Sun"): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFV5zm6ljn8

I love the band Dope as well. Here's a couple sample songs that totally rock:

I realize that they are probably not quite the right 'sound' for City Club, but I would really love to hear A Covenant of Thorns get a little play. Not a lot, just a little.

I think it would also be nice to hear some Imperative Reaction and System Syn.

And I'd like to see if I could dance to Shiny Toy Guns.

I hate to dash someone's bright hopes, but I wouldn't count on hearing anything new. Not because of the DJ's being unwilling, but because the DJ's know that the same people who continuously scream, cry, bitch, and moan "there's never anything new, and the music has become so stale", are also the ones who are too horrified of the thought of losing goth points by actually giving something new a chance. I've seen the DJ's pull out something brand spankin' new, with a significantly different style that sounded great, and the floor clears faster than Chuck Norris clears a saloon. Then you have the crowd who won't listen to anything they can't sing the words to, ergo, never anything new.

In defense of those who clear the dance floor (and I'm occasionally among them), but sometimes, when you don't know something new, it's not that you don't want to dance to it, it's that you can't find the groove right away. It takes a little to get acclimated.

Like to hear some of the old school stuff as well. Had a friend who would spin a set or two on a couple of nights in DC. But then, that is me being old. :p

I don't expect it to happen for all the reasons you listed. Still, I can dream...

hmmm your right, we need to request more voltair. the rivetheads will have to bear with us.

i think seperating things a bit, i mean perhaps from 12 till 2 you play all the new shit. then from 2 on stick with the over played vnv, combi, and the list goes on of all artists which are immortal in city club.

i know they have to keep people in the dance floor or else the bar just becomes a hallway packed full of human bodies.

lets face it saterdays can get way overcrowded and the dance floor becomes more of a place to put all the people then a dance floor.

Hell with it - when it comes to realgoth/deathrock Deadbeat,Human Fly,Sarah & Elisa, and Tim Tiki have that covered whenever they dj. On those occasions when I am at Shitty it's just for the camaraderie(though I wish they still had that jukebox).

Yeah, I've been surprised sometimes when being at clubs out of state. I'll hear something that really catches my ear, and when I ask someone about it, they'll say "oh that's like 15 years old, dude." I'd love to hear them play older stuff that they don't normally play at CC because I honestly don't know a lot of it and it sounds new to me.

The VAST MAJORITY of what gets played @ City Club are REQUESTS by the people who come out and right down what they want to hear.

Our guests determine what gets played.

Feel free to check out our playlists, which are published here and on our site just about every week.

I think that an amazing night at CC is when a vast assortment of tunes are played, a sweet mix of old and new.

You can always nicely ask our Dj's to spin a particular tune for you, if they have it they will usually play it.

Our Dj's are all very professional and agreeable people who want you to have a GREAT night out with friends.

Please do not YELL, or SWEAR @ our Dj's and expect to get what you want though, they are here for you to have fun - not to be screamed at.

Also, if you are so drunk that you can barely shuffle to the request list and your song doesn't get played its prolly cause they could not read your DRUNKEN SCRIBBLE. I have seen those pages, they look like a kid gone wild with a pen and paper.

You may want to get a less drunk friend to make the request for you, that way you have a better chance of hearing what you want.
