I know several people who have degrees and no one wants to hire them

I do skilled trade work, and should be making a few bucks more an hour,I blame the owner's not my boss, since he also knows what I should be making.

It all depends on what the degree is in though. Healthcare is big right now so a lot of schools have been increasing their nursing programs. The community college I went to up north only takes like 40 people a year into the program and ever year they have like 300 apply for it.

Currently I'm getting my paralegal degree because they are in demand also. Here are some high demand jobs by counties.

Macomb and St. Clair counties

Oakland county

Washtenaw county

Monroe and Wayne counties

Detroit

It is the means of framing their candidacy for the people to see. And as far as that function goes Obama's speech was one of the best I have ever seen.

Agreed.

I will be watching Senator McCain's acceptance speech with great interest as well.

underemployment is common. specially in detroit. now we cant use detroit as a example for all of amarica. but it seems its more being employed then anything else. as most jobs are cutting hours. or cutting jobs. look at ford, there cutting jobs with people who are making 50-100k a year. thats the way the market turns. if you guys plan on living in michigan, look at what the auto industry does very closely.

detroit is based of industrial jobs. we kept a mentality that the automotive industry whould give us paying jobs. cause many do get good paying jobs. but thats when the market was good. it isnt now. i was working overtime now my hours are cut and the shop im working for is basicly about to shut down. thats reality in a recession. id take a minimum wage job if it ment 40 hours a week EVERY WEEK, with no change in the hours. infact i know many in detroit who are suffering from the lack of work around.

anyways. minimum wage WILL NEVER EQUAL COST OF LIVING. ITS A UNEQUAL EXCHANGE.

Nader pic snipped for bandwidth

I don't know that I want Nader for pres. He is a fanatic. I want people that can at least bend a little when it is necessary. He is still a hero and should get cred for the work he has done. But I would want him working for an administration rather than running the show.

history never showed where minimum wage went above poverty level. but why settle for a minimum wage job. even if you dont have the time to invest in collage. theres skill trades and certifications which can get you a living wage job. you probly have a few yourself crank.

anyways basicly if the goverment raised the minimum wage. companies will be FORCED to raise prices to compensate, and inflation happens. and people who make lets say 50% above minimum wage will want to get compensation cause there work has been devalued. and so on and so forth. minimum wage is the foundation set. touch it and inflation will happen. and that extra 20 bucks a week wont mean anything.
