What do you think so far?

Thoughts with regard to speeches, hype, response to Dem's, etc?

Good forum to showcase conservative values, or all-show-no-substance?

It sounds like the smartly backed off until the effect of Gustav was known.....

Bu they seem to be in full swing now.

They did more than backed off, they turned the convention center into HQ for the evacuation and relief effort.

Actually Palin was his third or forth choice.... He was going to pick Joseph Lieberman or Mitt Romney first.... but they are both more pro-choice leaning, and so he had to pick a person who was pro-life to keep the conservative base in tact.

Not stating an opinion here one way or another, just what the news is saying.

Phee....FACT of the matter is Palin was chosen because she is female....there are many better canidates out there with much more exp....but all of them had dicks.....McCain NEEDS a female to have any hopes of winning.

Hrmm... Doesn;t your admission that it will take a FEMALE for McCain to win kind of go against your stance that we are not ready for a Woman in the Whitehouse?

If McCain wanted the best shot at winning via a female VP, he would've chose Condie as his running mate.

That actually would have been a very interesting choice with Lieberman running for VP twice in eight years--& on different parties' tickets! He's an interesting character.

I think Gov. Palin came across quite well in her speech.

It was succinct, direct, & relatively non-inflammatory. It was nice to see her (large) family together for the first time since her selection as well. Ironically the worst part of the event was when McCain joined them onstage. He seemed to keep forgetting where his running-mate was standing. Odd.

I have to agree. It was a damn fine speech. Slow to start... but it worked up to some finely placed and worded jabs at the competition without being personal. I think she may have done this kind of thing before.

and hey.. that black "shark skin" skirt looked damn fine from the back...

So her 12 years of being involved in some sort of government somehow makes her less experienced than Obama's like 4? Man you come off as real sexist and closed minded, which imo is not very appealing to the masses.

In fact, Palin is the only one out of the four (McCain included) that has any executive experience.

I like Palin. She seems genuine & idealistic.

But mayor of small-town Alaska & short-term governor does not impress me as major experience, no matter how much time she's had in those offices.

nice try gaf....however...I said that we are not ready for a woman to RUN this country...as in a woman as president....I think that a woman nominated as VP running mate, however, is a step in the right direction...socially speaking.

I do think there are much better female canidates that could have been chosen, however.

Take, for example, Christine Todd Whitman, who had her first term as Governor of NJ back in 1993.

that being said...it still doesn't deny the fact that McCain HAD To pick a female to have a chance of winning.

thats not sexist...thats a fact in this political race. Had he chosen Romney or another male, it would have not been seen as "bold" and "maverick"...but rather more of the same stuff we have dealt with for years. However, the race is now pretty much 50/50 between the two...the closest presidental race we have had in a while.

How's this for major experience?

On the other hand, you have a resume from a gifted man with an Ivy League education. He worked as a community organizer, and immersed himself in Chicago machine politics. Then he ran for the state legislature - where nearly 130 times he was unable to make a decision yes or no. He simply voted "present."

As Mayor of New York City, I never got a chance to vote "present." And you know, when you're President of the United States, you can't just vote "present." You must make decisions.

A few years later, he ran for the U.S. Senate. He won and has spent most of his time as a "celebrity senator." No leadership or major legislation to speak of. His rise is remarkable in its own right - it's the kind of thing that could happen only in America. But he's never run a city, never run a state, never run a business.

He's never had to lead people in crisis.

This is not a personal attack ... .it's a statement of fact - Barack Obama has never led anything.

Nothing. Nada.

Yeah, to most people Alaska doesn't mean much. But it's isolated from the rest of the US. It has more land mass than any other state and more natural resources than any other state. There's foreign policy every day in dealing with Canada. Whoop-de-shit, Canada, but international commerce and politics is a lot different than interstate commerce and politics. Also, Russia is right across the Bering Straight and their invasion of Georgia is making us look at them a little weary. Homeland Security has a nightmare trying to secure that border. Palin has a lot more responsibility in Alaska than we give her credit for. Short term governor of Alaska impresses me a lot more than long term governor of almost any other state.

really?....short term in governor of Alaska is more impressive then long term goverment of any other state??

Foreign policy dealing with Canada??....so I guess that Alaska deals more with Canada then say....the OTHER TEN STATES that share physical borders with Canada....right...because New York, Michigan, or Maine don't deal with Canada more then Alaska does...even though the Majority of Canada's population, and therefore commerce, HAPPENS to be on the eastern side of their country. There is a reason that the North Eastern US sees more Canadian Money then the rest of the US.

Yes...the Bering Straight is a pain...but you know what is worse?...protecting the borders of HAWAII...cuz it happens to be in the middle of the ocean...and can be struck by NUMEROUS sources, where Alaska is really only under threat by Russia....if Russia would choose to move a land based army....in the dead of winter....across ice. Otherwise, they have to fly or by boat...and we'll know about that soon as a nose is pointed our way.

Russia only has two major cities on that side, near the Strait: Anadyr and Alyatki. The only major Alaskan city near the straight is Nome.

there really isn't any good strategic reason for Russia to invade Alaska...you would have US military and Canadian forces on your tail....wouldn't be any good.
