Gaf The Horse With Tears Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 You Can Put Lipstick on a Pig, But It's Still a Pig Obama... Mr. high and mighty above who is so above personal attacks.
TitsMcGee Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Wow..that's a redneck comment, I've actually said something along those lines lol.
Guest GodfallenPromos Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Obama... Mr. high and mighty above who is so above personal attacks. that remark would not have been taken so badly had his staff not forgotten the banjo and moonshine....
Rev.Reverence Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Obama... Mr. high and mighty above who is so above personal attacks. Yup... ..those people wrote another fucked up speech... & he did not edit it... ..you see what I was saying, Gaf? ...I do not like this guy either.
Fin Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Obama... Mr. high and mighty above who is so above personal attacks. Just because Gov. Palin mentioned lipstick in her acceptance speech, that does not mean Senator Obama was targeting her with that comment. This was a jibe at McCain's policies & their similarity to George W Bush's failures. Let's take the rightward slant & innuendo away, shall we? Reference
Gaf The Horse With Tears Posted September 10, 2008 Author Posted September 10, 2008 I know exactly what he was supposed to be making reference too... it's an old saying. I also have listened to enough politicians speaking to know double speak when I see it. Plausible Deniability. It was also a complete and total blunder on his part. He should have known that the comment would be seized upon by both the media and the Republican political machine. It's over shadowing everything else he said... and still is. His inexperience is showing again.

jynxxxedangel Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 I fell asleep with Channel 20 on last night (I rarely even watch TV), and woke up to Pat Robertson haranguing about Mr. Obama's "gaff," as he calls it. He went on to say something about Mr. Obama's "handlers" needing to keep a tighter rein over his speeches. This "gaff" (or megalomaniac ranting) of his own fascinated me, so I listened to him go on.. From what I could gather, the head of CBN sure has it out for the Dems. His commentary is VERY slanted towards McCain and Palin. And of course, every bit of political rhetoric and scripture is followed by smarmy charity case scenarios, pleas for donations, and then more scripture to pound it in. I am at a loss for choosing one set of candidates over the other, as neither represent the sort of power I would prefer to see in office-- therefore, I am quite neutral over the entire situation. Pat Robertson and CBN SCARE me. He is such a hard-seller of blatant Christian Fundamentalism, and obviously has much influence over many different demographic of people. What's scarier, is people send this organization unheard of amounts of money!! This puts me in mind of how the NRA began pushing Bush/Cheney during their presidential campaign. It caused me to wake up, and cancel my lifetime membership. I DON'T want some organization I belong to pressuring me as to whom I should vote for. I certainly hope others have the same strength to form their own opinions and make their own choices. Sadly, I don't think humanity has enough faith in itself these days NOT to be swayed by potentially harmful, influential people.

I also have listened to enough politicians speaking to know double speak when I see it. Plausible Deniability. Good! You had me worried for a minute there, Gaf! My point was that this was not a personal attack, as you implied.
Gaf The Horse With Tears Posted September 10, 2008 Author Posted September 10, 2008 Yes it was... it was also a comment on McCain's platform. Plausible Deniability at work.
phee Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Yes it was... it was also a comment on McCain's platform. Plausible Deniability at work. yeah... toward Hillary Its almost like we are dealing with politicians.....
Guest GodfallenPromos Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 yeah... toward Hillary Its almost like we are dealing with politicians..... or puppets....the complex type of puppets used in feature films....like a SKEKSIS!!! sorry...I just like saying that word!!!
phee Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 or puppets....the complex type of puppets used in feature films....like a SKEKSIS!!!sorry...I just like saying that word!!! Yeah... McCain Vs. Obama in a "Trial By Stone" thats how we solve the election! (another Dark Crystal Reference)
Fin Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Yes it was... it was also a comment on McCain's platform. Plausible Deniability at work. How is a phrase about a political policy a personal attack? Answer: It's not. Sorry--that makes no sense. It was a comment on McCain's choosing to follow in the path of policies set forth by George W, not a comment on the man himself.
Guest GodfallenPromos Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Yeah... McCain Vs. Obama in a "Trial By Stone" thats how we solve the election! (another Dark Crystal Reference) YES....TRIAL BY STONE!!!!!
Gaf The Horse With Tears Posted September 10, 2008 Author Posted September 10, 2008 I think you are missing my point about Plausible Deniability. He choose those words because it was an insult to mcCain's pilicys AND an insult to Palin.

Guest GodfallenPromos Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Matter of opinion? I would think so...I think there were be much better ways to insult McCain and Palin...such as McCain's entire Republican support seems to be coming from the repeated story of his POW period...which I am tired of hearing of OVER and OVER...and the fact that Palin likes to pretend she is Paul Bunyuns private cook, what with all the flapjacks she is making on her statements. I don't consider using the old saying was to directly, or indirectly, insult either of them. I think he was refering to everyone on the republican side, and media, giving Palin this amazing record of governing when she has LESS expeiriance then what Obama does. However, I have noticed that you left out anything around the remark....I'm sure there are other things around the remark in question that would clear up to the general public what he said.
Gaf The Horse With Tears Posted September 10, 2008 Author Posted September 10, 2008 "'We're really gonna shake things up in Washington,'" Obama said, mocking McCain's claim to offer change. "That's not change. That's just calling something the same thing, something different. But you know you can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig. "You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change. It's still going to stink after eight years. We've had enough of the same old thing! It's time to bring about real change to Washington. And that's the choice you've got in this election,"

Gaf The Horse With Tears Posted September 10, 2008 Author Posted September 10, 2008 Um, He claimed today he was specifically talking about McCain's proposed policy's. I can go find the quote if you like.
Gaf The Horse With Tears Posted September 10, 2008 Author Posted September 10, 2008 But lets switch gears yet stay in the "I can;t beleive he said that mode... I knew Biden's big mouth was going to hurt him. “Make no mistake about this, Hillary Clinton is as qualified or more qualified than I am to be vice president of the United States of America. Lets get that straight,” Biden said in Clinton’s defense. “She’s easily qualified to be vice president … and quite frankly, might have been a better pick than me. But she’s first rate. I mean that sincerely. She is first rate. So let’s get that straight,” he said.
phee Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 yeah...I'm reading that too.... I mean... I can think of much better ways to say what he is saying (and granted he is quoting a personal attack that McCain made on Hillary)... But I don't see any personal reference to McCain or his running mate in the text that Gaf quoted. If he had said "My opponent is like an old fish trying to re-wrap itself" or "Palin is like putting lipstick on Mcain and he is a pig..." Then yeah... that would be personal IMO.
