It has possibilities and obvious pitfalls too. Yucca Mountain anyone? That doesn't address pollution problems. It doesn't address regional water shortages. It doesn't adress the mountains of trash that are piling up in lanfills because of rampant consumerism and waste. You also can't make materials like plastics from urianium. Etc. etc, etc...

People need to stop treating the earth like crap, plain and simple.

If you are talking about stuff like oil and other fossil fuels I don't see how we are going to use up those resources. If we admit to the fact that they will run out then we are saying that the earths core has shut down in which case our children will have alot more to worry about. Not to mention the fact that if we yell at anyone we should yell at fucking China for pollution and waste of resources instead of trying to push the fact that America is the asshole of the planet.

I'm just saying that in places like Madison that these "green" anwseres have turned up nothing as far as gains. Somewhere along the line they still pollute, they still use up resources, and there are efficiency tradeoffs. They want to change they power frid to run off of nothing but wind powered turbines and solar panels. They do this against all the warinings from the University and other professionals that and complete switch will drive prices through the roof, ruin the landscape, and result in rolling blackouts. However, small scale additions of these systems will lighten the load on power stations and wires which results in a lighter workload. This equals less of a dependency on fossil fuels which makes for less pollution and it will also allow people to lower their power bills by switching between grids.

I see this green movement just like the smoking ban. Nothing has been proven to be true on either side so why is there this huge demand to completely change our ways? I can't afford to buy this new crap and neither can alot of other people. I can barely afford to keep my already efficient equipment working right now. It seems odd to me that in recent years everyone has become paranoid of everything. Its like all of the sudden all these things just turned into something evil. Are we afraid of death? Are we some sort of fallen Ubermensh society that wants to get back on its pedestal? Every time I see, in history, a person or a group of people do an about-face change because of some "terrible evil" I see a short run of greatness follower by what I can only describe as a clusterfuck.

Individual people can do what they think they need to do in order to help something. As for me, I do what I do and as long as its not a criminal activity you can make me do shit. You can suggest it but if soneone thinks that they can make me changed based on shifty "evidence" and then try to make me feel guilty if I don't then they better fuck off. The place where I live hasn't changed much since WW2 and alot of the people don't understand what they fuck is going on in this world. I don't either and I am sick of people trying to make out country, our generation, our way of life worse than other out there. Its just shit, pure shit. I will admit that there is some bad shit out there but how the hell does it help to make people feel like shit about everything?

Have we completely given up hope as a society? I am seriously on the verge of kicking the shit out of the next person that tells I NEED to: quit smoking, drive a different car, stop using plastic bags, stop eating these foods, stop this stop that don't do this oh you are so evil you should do this...WTF!?!?! Being part of one of these causes does not make you a better person that me, and it doesn't mean that you are actually helping anything. If it is proven than maybe I will help out but none of these things are. If I open a can of soda and dump it out it is empty, but if I smoke outside where does it go exactly? I will also point out, myself being a person of French decent, that France has never really won a war. What France does is they pull what the cheater kid on the playground does, they wait until the war is almost over and they basically jump in on the side of whoever is winning and when the war is won by that side they strut their shit like it was 100% their doing, when really they were just riding the coat-tails of another country. I believe, and I may be wrong on this correct me I am, that the only real war/battle that France won was lead by a 14 year old GIRL who heard voices from God. Hell, some speculate the only real reason France had her killed was out of embarassment, but that can't be proven. I just find the whole damn thing ironic.

This is so exactly wrong as to be laughable. Read the Constitution and a few history books. The founders of our country created a weak central government. All real power was given to the States. They set up NO social programs. Nothing to protect against poverty. Nothing to protect minority's.

They created Freedom.

Socialism takes away Freedom.

Isn't that what the whole system of checks and balances is about, also? Making sure the government stays dispursed, not centralized, so that one doesn't get more power than the other. It was a fail-safe to try and ensure our freedom from too much government rule and involvement (i.e. Socialism, once again).

I fucking HATE...when people think that the world is theirs. Yeah...deplete the resources so that your TOILET can flush better?
