When two socialists

I have a few things to say on this topic, and I'm not trying to pick a fight here.

One: I think you missed the point regarding Prick's praise of the French system of government (current). He liked that it did more to assure the common citizen social and economic security, that they are considerably more progressive than we are in terms of environmentally supportable agriculture, and (as I commented later) that they have a considerably larger range of opinions and political parties than does our nation. Certainly, we have as many opinions, but we haven't the representation by legitimately recognized political parties as they do.

I've already made my opinion on third parties clear in the past, I'm against them.

Two: It is possible to have praise or admiration for someone or something without liking everything about it. French fries, for example, I adore the taste of, especially with ketchup, especially if very crispy. But I don't like that they have so little nutritional value or that they make me fat. Now, in some cases, like french fries, it may be impossible to enjoy its perceived benefits without becoming subject to its pitfalls. This is NOT the case in regards to any of the reasons you, Chernobyl or Constantin have given for hating the French. It is NOT a requirement for having appreciation for some aspects of the French political system and social programs that we a) lose wars, b) hate Americans, c) engage in grossly exploitative Imperialism, or d) be rude. Even if we adopt a large portion of those practices Prick and I admire, the arguments you have given are completely irrelevant arguments AGAINST adopting them. There are good arguments against these things. I suggest you challenge us there.

I did not feel the need to at this time. There is no forum rules stating that one can only challenge the relevant points of a post. I've done so plenty of times in the past, but just because I have doesn't mean that I will at all times.

edit: I don't feel the need to challenge your admiration and desire for french social programs. I am against a LARGE portion of socialist programs. This is well established.

I probably would have skipped posting here entirely if I hadn't seen France used as something other than a joke.

Three: Blanket generalizations, especially where so effusively throwing hate, ARE offensive. People will be offended. You hate it when a French person proclaims loathing for ALL Americans. Why shouldn't the sentiments go both ways when you have done the same? Let us PLEASE demonstrate more respect for each other, our heritages and our opinions.

Because the french have done nothing to deserve their arrogance (we have), and they only loath americans because we are the country they couldn't become. They tried... 5 times?

I've stated in the past that my hatred of the french is completely prejudicial, and that I really don't care. There is no law against being offensive, and as far as I'm aware forum rules only prohibit specifically offending other posters.

If 'you' are offended by my disdain of all french, that's 'your' problem.

I'm sorry. I should not have used a blanket generalization when I said I'd fuck the French. That was wrong of me as I realize that everyone should be treated as individuals and not as a group. There are some French that I would not want to fuck. Here's one of them:

Thank you.

So why do I keep getting shit for complementing Nazi Germany on certain aspects?

What about the fact the generalization is sometimes a necessary evil. Sometimes I feel like an ass and sometimes I am happy that I did it. Yeah, every young Mexican that comes into Autozone is watched by me and the rest of the staff until they leave. Why? Because we think that they are going to steal something. We don't watch the young white kids that much because most of them want to spend what they call "cheese" in order to get some "bling".

I know quite a few people that went to France and they said that they wouldn't go back. Most of them would rather travel somehwere else. Yeah they liked the big awesome tower of happiness and they liked the food but that was it.

As long as people generalize Americans in the ways that they do I will continue to do the same. When did we become the worst country on the planet? Umm...never. Last time I check shurch and state were seperate, we don't brainwash our kids in school, our women have freedoms, and we aren't ripping off the world and our own people with the oil we sell. Oh shit I think that we are the opposite of Iraq!

Oh and when the French have better agriculture than us let me know. Yeah, their agriculture is better than ours and we are the worlds thinnest country.

people generalize. its in our psycology, its part of how everyone stores information in those brain cells. and popular belief in groups sway that. the Asch conformity experiment gives notion to this... this also sadly makes for negative judgement with the 3 second first impression

It's not that there were no good things; it's just that they were part and parcel to something very evil. That's a little bit more difficult to separate. More like my french fry example. But if you're talking about, say, the nice costuming and discipline of the military, for example, I might even agree with you.

That is a very unfortunate practice. I can't agree with you at all there.

I never meant to suggest that we are the worst. That certainly is NOT my opinion of America. There are some things I criticize, but because I love us and I want to see us improve. And per your example, I would add Saudi Arabia to that list. And Ghana. And.....etc.

I am not familiar with any statistics that suggest that America is the thinnest country. Would you mind sharing your source? Because I find that rather encouraging. Most of the articles I find are more like this one:

But we can also train ourselves to periodically reevaluate our assumptions. That is one benefit of critical thinking. I am aware that we have the tendency, but not all of our tendencies serve our best interests.

I've been to France.. and I'm in Japan. They both kick America's ass at being a healthy weight. That's all I got.

some people do. some make there assumptions on demographics, and others sadly its hatred.

i personally find it best just not to assume anything when it comes to social situations. im also one who really does not judge on first impressions. to me people are people and culture, amarican middle-class culture, or thug culture does not enter into the equation. now if someone is just downright disrespectful, violent, arrogent and rude then i dont need to assume anything, the facts are clear these people are to risky to talk to.

When did we become the worst country on the planet? Umm...never. Definitely NOT the WORST...but slippin'...

Last time I check shurch and state were seperate, SOME peoples ARE trying to undo that...(if you don't see it that is too bad.)

we don't brainwash our kids in school,BULL---SHIT!

our women have freedoms, But NOT EQUALITY...

and we aren't ripping off the world and our own people with the oil we sell. BULLSHIT, again! there is not ANYONE that does not rip peoples off when oil is in the deal...NO ONE. They are ALL in it together. (I thought LONG & HARD about that absolute statement...& I'll add "that I've seen.")

*The saying goes, "Do unto others as you would have done to you"...not the other way around...

I think you guys are debating different points.

I mean... How agriculturally advanced a country is has little to do with how fat people are.

I will give France her due... when it comes to actually farming... they do very well. They are the only Eroupean country that could, if they wanted to, supply all thier own food. That has more to do with the climate and soil in France than anything else. Farming has decreased by 60% in the last 20 years and now accounts for 3% of their GDP.

To counter that we have the US, that could... if we actually planted all our fields, feed the world with food to spare. We were called the "Bread Basket of the World" for a reason.

But none of that really matters. What we were really talking about is the French Culture. The people and how they non-French are treated. If we focus on that and not on how fat people are or how well we till out crops...

Well, it comes out to be a tie... Both the French and the Americans are known around the world to be rude, self centered twats.

But, when we look really close... Americans admit it and try thier best to get over it... The French embrace it and reinforce it with laws.

Its a socialist country, so are you saying that everything BUT the blame is shared?

And OMG, unless you are a natural french citizen, please stop your whining, none of these posts were directed at you.

Your insulting my family.....& I am not whining, I am bitching.....Get it straight

I'm thinking I'm going to be moving to AZ, soon! Can't wait! I friggin' love it here! The heat doesn't bother me at all and the best part? NO SNOW!!! (S.N.O.W. - Shit  No One Wants)   Been staying in Bullhead City where the kids and grandkids live. Next, we're going to the wife's cousin's which is a ways North of Kingman, in the middle of nowhere, where we actually plan to move.   I really like Bullhead. It's a nice little town. Not overcrowded like Colorado Springs has become, at all. Very light traffic, reasonable prices on everything, low taxes, etc. The river offers a lot to do, with a lot of beaches and campgrounds all around it.   But yeah even though we've been over 110º-115º F just about every day,  I can handle it!  What I can't handle anymore, is snow and being cold. Just tired of it. Give me the desert over a blizzard any day!

Nope, we wasn't doing anything. I didn't want to go by myself.  I ended up doing karaoke here. It would of been a perfect day to go, though.
