Can other races use this?

And its better then forming and organized mob to take advantage of your race to make a buck if that helps...

Wow I'm sure if someone made a browser "Red Bird" for lack of a better term that focused with Native american points of view, or Caucasiotron focused on white supremecy there would be an outcry of racism i dont see this as being any different... Just my personal opinion but i've always believed "whats good for the goose is good for the gander" to quote an old euphamism

racism is racism

*straps on a battered old tin-hat*

Something tells me, the ones who will benefit most from this, are the marketing researchers. *straightface*

Does anyone else remember the Kool cigarettes billboards and ads of the 80s and 90s-- totally geared towards the black American demographic?

I don't like this, one bit-- and I hope that Afro-American people will see this for what it really is.

...exactly what I was getting at...I wonder if Henissy is a sponsor yet...

The only people who keep racism going are those who complain that racism is still going. Especially if they can make a buck from it.

Can I get a tin-hat that looks like this? Maybe with a built in back and foot massager too?

The funny thing is, he didn't even create the browser, he just made a skin for Firefox. I'm pretty sure if he makes $1 off it, he'll be violating* the open source/copy left agreement.

I hope Mozilla shows him who da massa is.

I really dislike racism and people that are too stupid to realize when they are being racist.

If they aren't already, it's only a matter of time. FUBU, BabyPhat, Rocawear, etc. will all be wanting to jump on that train, as well.

As for the open source agreement violation Goth Brooks has mentioned, he's absolutely correct. I doubt Mozilla will let this one slide.

I don't know how many times I've had two browser windows open with two different topics on DGN, and mixed up my replies! :p

A couple of questions...

"Blackbird's concept of a browser tailored towards a community is nothing new. The Flock "social browser" offers some appealing integration with social networking and webmail services, and even built-in tools for blogging and photo sharing. A spinoff of Flock, called Gloss, also offers similar custom tools and Blackbird-like content customizations for women. "We call it an 'identity browser,'" Young explained. "I could make a browser for the lovers of WarCraft. Would that be exclusionary of other people? No, I would just be bringing those people closer to the sites and resources that they are probably interested in.""

... would a browser with results skewed towards womens rights, womens interests, womens health issues, etc be considered sexist?

... if so, is O magazine sexist?

... if so, is Jet magazine racist?

... if not, why do people consider this web browser to be racist?

Posted

It would depend on how it was done. The presentation, so to speak, says it all. At the moment I am a tad drunk so I wont try to expound on that answer till I am not.

I have to agree with Gaf, as to why this bothers me. The aspect of large corporations promoting and endorsing lifestyle choices to captive audiences makes my skin crawl. This is one of my main beefs with the internet, in general.

...if it is...that is not my problem.

.....there are PLENTY of media, mags, t.v. stations...ALL for the blacks...

.....there are PLENTY of the same for Latinos, Asians, Arabs...& the list goes on...

.....this is not seen as "racist"...what if "C-TV" showed up? (Caucasian Television)

IT WOULD BE RACIST IN A SECOND!

THAT...IS NOT MY PROBLEM.....

.....it is going to be a propaganda parade.

.....OR.....I'm being paranoid.....hence the tin-hat! :stuart:

Part of it is the fact that you don't need the browser to be tailored to do that, just pop in the appropriate words and resources appropriate to race will come up on their own. It's like he's telling blacks their too stupid to do that on their own.. and the sites he chooses for them, he probably has some financial tie-in to. So he's pretending to benefit them when in reality he's the one that benefits. A magazine like Jet caters to fashion, hair, makeup , stuff like that. I don't have a problem with that. But filtering the entire web to a race-centric point of view?
