i guess i shouldve been more specific. if your the only one putting in the "dumb things" to try and make the relationship work or make them happy while the other person is telling you they love you but not willing to put in anything of their own into making it work or helping you then they probably dont really love you to begin with

I'm going to disagree with this. Just because it doesn't work out, doesn't mean two people weren't in love. People change, shit happens.. etc...

Nope, I agree with gauge on this one. Even if it ends with heartache, that doesn't mean that's all you're left with. If that is the only thing you are left with, no happiness, no good memories, no personal growth, and you feel nothing but regret about the relationship, then it probably wasn't love. I'm not talking about the first few painful weeks, but further on, when you've had the time to get over the pain a bit. I have had a few relationships over the years, and some real doozies, but I don't really fully regret any of them. All of them were good in their own way, even the crazy one who threatened to kidnap me and rape me and etcetc. The only one I fully regret was the one who kinda did rape me and everything. And it wasn't love. At all. The rest...sure, some were mistakes, but they didn't leave me with nothing but heartache, and I have good memories and happiness from them, so I don't regret them. Things can not work out and still leave you with much more than just heartache.

I think I'm actually not disagreeing with either of you, I just think Marc is not actually disageeing with Gauge as much as he thinks he is. Because I think you definitely can have more than heartache left after something doesn't work out.
