Guest Game of Chance Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 The school of hard knocks. Don't waste your money getting certifications unless you have a degree to back them. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't know if that's necessarily true. I have my series 7 (general securities, i.e. stocks and bonds) license. I have a job that usually requires an MBA. I think I have maybe 7 college credits.

pomba gira Posted August 19, 2005 Posted August 19, 2005 What school do you go to I go to Maywood Middle School in Issiguah Wa <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thought so... you sound like my students. I think lots of people should go back to school. It appears that some don't do well the first time around. I was horrible in math. I still AM horrible in math. I didn't give a rats ass about history, either. Now that 9/11 has occurred, it made me realize that I was a part of some incredible history. I pay a LOT more attention now. I know how stupid that may sound. There are so many adults who can't spell simple, fundamental words. Everyday words like "maybe" and the like. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Or don't know how to use an apostrophe... that one drives me crazy. & the way history was taught until very recently, seemed to be purposefully made as uninteresting as possible. Prolly 'cos until recently education was aimed at producing good little workers, not thinkers. education is a life-long process. youre never too old for school. ive had 70-year-olds in some classes. myself, i took about 5 years off. kinda wish i hadnt, but thats how it is. i learned alot anyway, that you dont learn in school. im so close to my bachelors, i can taste it. i need to stay on track now. it took me another 5 years of nights to get here, no point in quiting now. hopefully ill be in the market for a new, better job a year from now. i love learning. i never want to stop. ever. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It's true... I went to Michigan State right out of high school, spent 4 years dicking around, then dropped out & moved to San Francisco. Didn't finish my BA till I was 36, thru a Wayne State scholarship & support program for women returning students. Stumbled into teaching (always swore I would never go into the "family business") at age 39 & got my Master's (Univ. Phoenix Online) to pursue that. Thinking of going for a PhD in a couple years... hell, I'm good at going to school, I might as well take advantage of that! But seriously, even if you were never "good at school" when you were younger, keep in mind that education (at all levels) is way different now from 20 years ago... hell, even 10 years ago. There are a lot more options available, and a lot more understanding of the different ways that people learn. So by all means, anyone who is even considering furthering their edjumacation, go for it 'cos it's never too late!
