Too many Holidays

just because the rest of your family gets sucked into the "commercialism" of holidays, it doesn't mean you have to - using x-mas as an example, i told my family years ago that i would no longer be buying gifts for anyone, and i didn't want to receive any, either; i would love to bring a dish to pass for a holiday meal, and to spend time with them & get caught up on life and things, which is what i think most holidays should really be about. why exchange gifts anyway? i mean, the only thing i can see that would have started that "tradition" would be the wise men giving gifts to jesus... am i jesus? then why the f**k are you buying me a gift!! (LMAO - sorry, really got off on a tangent there!! :laughing :nut ) anyway...

thanksgiving - don't want to make a big meal, and deal with all that hassle? can't fit that many people in your house? go out for chinese... valentine's day - think flowers/chocolates are cheesy? can't afford to take someone out for a fancy meal? then don't - make your own little gestures that express how you feel and fit within your comfort zone. make the holidays your own - decide how you want to celebrate them, inform your family / SO, and be strong in your convictions. it took me 5 years to get my point across, but things are great now, and i actually look forward to the holidays again. (ok, maybe not "look forward to", but i don't loathe and dread them anymore! :wink:happy: )
