I was thinking more of an automatic limit that would not let one post images that are too large. I have no idea what is considered too large and what is okay.

Sort of. For sigs, you need to add a custom script. Not exactly sure how to do that...

Uploads, I'm not sure. I'm seeing stuff to limit galleries, though. Is anybody hotlinking to DGN image galleries? 'Cause I'm going to turn that off.

Any moderators care to comment on why we've exceeded the bandwidth limit again?  Do we need to contribute some $$$ to help?  Is it even within the realm of doing without Troy being active here?

To be honest, I'm not exactly sure where the Paypal contributions go. Whether they go directly to the IPB account for DGn or to Troy himself... I just don't know. As soon as I know, you'll know. Somehow, someway, though, Troy is continuing to pay the monthly costs for the board. So, if you do donate, the money is going to him, and he is paying the hosting costs.

Now, getting him to pay *more* when we exceed our bandwidth, that's another issue.

So, right now, I'm looking through the admin control panel to see if I can limit bandwidth and see who our 'worst abusers' are. I promise not to name names!

Ok, no more external linking to gallery images. I'm not sure how much that buys us, but there are some interesting bandwidth usage stats here... apparently, I'm a bandwidth hog right now since I've clicked on a couple galleries....

Well, so much for my experiment in bandwidth restricting. Despite putting detroitgothic.net and www.detroitgothic.net on the 'allowed' list, the image galleries were pwn3d. So, hot-linking is back!

If so, Photobucket.com is free, pretty easy to use and already has the BBcode you can copy and paste right into any BB post. I don't want to see the board go down again.

I tend to link pictures like the picture game ones directly from the website, or upload them to my own AOL FTP space and then link from there.

There's another great idea.

If people continue to put their gigantic signatures on DGN, there goes the bandwidth, and people like Phee will poop their own pants. So put then somewhere else, or make them smaller. Frankly, I think their an eyesore when they're large.
