That's because gun control works. *cough*

"To get a Glock in Michigan, I have to go to the gun store, figure out which one I want (let's just say a Glock 17 'cuz it's the most prolific), and have them hold it for me. Then I have to go to the County Clerks and get a purchase permit for the Glock 17 and only the Glock 17 with the specified serial number. To get the permit, I need to be finger printed and background checked. After approval and getting the permit I have 7 days to go back to the gun store and purchase said Glock before the permit expires. After the purchase, I then have 14 days to go to the Sheriff's office to have a safety check and registration performed. Then I'm completely legal. Of course, having a CCW cuts out several of those steps but it was an even larger pain getting the CCW. All in all it would cost me about $600-$700."

Ummmm. Trip to the department of Records at the local PD, Pick up a permit, buy the pistol, and have it registered the same day. I have done it seven times, twice in 2007, the safety inspection was done on the spot. Never had to give the serial#1 or any of that jazz, no fingerprint or bg check. I just needed an appointment, city of Trenton took care of the rest. I've never had any hassle legally purchasing a pistol in this state.

Now, for comparison ... to get a fully automatic Uzi I can make one phone call and get the number to a black market contact. Yes, I do know a guy who knows a guy and no, I'm not going to tell you who. Once I get that number I set up an appointment. I tell the guy what I want and give him about $400-$500 cash. About 4 days later I get a call and another appointment is set up. I get the Uzi with no serial number and maybe even a few hand grenades for being such a good customer. (No, this is not hypothetical. I met a guy who was trying to sell me grenades stolen from the military. I said thanks but no thanks. The black market is real and it's not hard to find. And no, it wasn't a sting. My original major was law enforcement and I trained to be a cop. I know the good guys and work with them on occasion. I just decided that it wasn't the line of work for me.)

It's cheaper, faster, and easier to go through the black market and get illegal firearms than it is to follow the law and be legit. Heck, drugs have been illegal for decades yet I bet many of you have some right now. And even if you don't do drugs I bet you know a person who knows a person who could get some good stuff for cheap.

Gun control doesn't stop criminals. All it does is stop law abiding citizens from being able to protect themselves against those criminals. Oh, and all those mass shootings that you hear about in the news (Virginia Tech, Mall in Omaha, Trolley Square), every single one of them happened in a "Gun Free Zone". Didn't stop the bad guy now did it? What it did do is stop a CCW holder from stopping the rampage. I can give you first person narrative from people who watched innocents get slaughtered and were helpless to stop it because they followed the law and left their firearm locked up safe instead of carrying it in a "Gun Free Zone", er, "Unarmed Victim Zone".

i agree, there are to meny restrictions dealing with so called "gun control" i could see if it as a good thing if it worked but it does nothing to those who would get firearms illegally and use them to do harm.

The problem is the government actually has very many good ideas...however they have a problem actually following through with them...so yes I agree, this is just another case where if it worked right it would be great, but it doesn't and unfortunatly probably never will in my lifetime.

So I agree that we should retain our right to bare arms.

I love seeing girls' bare arms in the summer...

Any ways, I don't have any qualms about guns being registered, or having the ballistics signature characterized, or any other way of making sure that an individual gun can be tracked. Guns can be stolen. It's better to have a way to link a gun to a gun crime than it is to start from scratch every time a weapon is used in the commission of a crime.

Indeed, I don't even see a problem with restricting writers of bad checks from purchasing a gun... for a few years. It's all about balance, finding a way to protect society from the excesses of personal freedom while at the same time protecting the individual from the excesses of society...

against!!! If I want to carry a 357 S&W, I should have the right do it legally instead of have to deal with shady douchebags

NO

All the criminals will get them anyway so lets keep things in check......

Also, If they try to stick a id chip in us we are heading to the hills and having a stand off.

I needs me guns.

Phee, and if a frog had wings, he wouldn't bump his ass along the ground.

We live in a world and a country where firearms are woven into the tapestry of life. If guns are outlawed, onyl outlaws will have guns.

...and the government. The outlaws and government, actually The Anarchist's Cookbook says the same thing, not that I own a copy.

The reason we HAVE the right to bear arms as Americans is because in Britain our Founding Fathers didn't. They wanted to make sure that in a new land the people had the chance to fight back against a tyrranical government - if it came down to it. So they wrote it into The Constitution.

I don't know that for fact, I'm just speculating, but it does make sense. I know that with guns among the citizens that there will be a casualty here and there, but it's a small price to pay, as morbid as that sounds.

Freedom isn't free.

*hump hump hump hump*

Ahhh....so good. Thanks for that...I know I quit but at times like this... *lights cigarette*

I know nothing about the black market for firearms, but I do know alot about the black market for drugs, and lemme tell you. It's not something I'm proud of (I've never done hard drugs though), but it's something I know a whole lot about.

RIGHT now...this very second, if I jumped into my car and drove down into Detroit I could get my hands on any illicit substance I wanted to, from marijuana to meth, in under 15 minutes. There would be people running up to my car (I am not exaggerating, go ahead and try it) shoving crack in my window, along with coke, heroin, meth, weed, etc, trying to get me to buy it.

What makes you think that guns would be so hard to find down there? Think about it. I've had them offered to ME (only twice), and I'm clearly a cutesy little suburb girl....and they know it. Although I was usually wearing a trenchcoat, so maybe that's why they figured I was in the market for one

Also, if any mother fucker in M-13 tried to machete me or my family you bet that I would blow that piece of shit's brains right out, hopefully in front of his family so they can realize what a shithole human defect they've created (as if they probably care ) and sickly enough would take pleasure in the fact that I did so. It would be the greatest day of my life and I would feel no remorse what-so-ever.

We need guns.

...I mean, guns DO come with a saftey...

You have all come up with VERY good points. I think that I may need to sit back and think about my viewpoint on this issue.

The fact that if a person cant get something legally they can get it illegally bothers the crap out of me...but I guess if it was easier to get one legally there wouldnt be so many that werent

I am for control not banning them... right now the problem with gun control is that there isn't any... the current version of gun control is to be taken about as seriously as the career of C Thomas Howell.

I think I saw an episode of gun control, or something like this on Modern Marvels...

You sure it was Fire Control? I'm pretty sure they have done a show on the Aegis Cruiser.

I think you might be right.... DAMN! *shakes fist*

It was some type of control and things that humans can use to cause harm with.

I think someone was watching my actions when I was in Iraq.

I used to melt spoons together and try to make super wepons with them.
