they are good. There's a couple places in Hamtramck that will make them year round...you eat them before you fast-there's like enough calories in them to keep you going for 2 or 3 days, no worries. It's a Polish-Catholic, Fat Tuesday pastry. they fill them with all kinds of fruit. you could like chuck one through a window-pretty hefty.
