Is anyone on thse forums racist?

Something else that I'm noticing in this thread.

There's a lot of "I'm not racist but I hate people in general" comments.

Why do we have to hate at all? I'm not clean of this thought either but it just makes me think. Why do we always have to hate someone????

The saying of don't hate the player hate the game comes to mind. Why should we hate the person but not the actions??? We should hate the things people are being told, not the people who were taught this.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

i don't get why people hate either? i don't hate anyone so i don't understand hating people you don't even know or hating people at ALL.

Because people think it's funny

So now apparently I'm racist because I don't think biblical Eve was black. I think she was invisible, which is even paler than white, isn't it?

I know a few that are. And yes, I am still freinds with them. I know they are because.....when we hang out they say so. And talk about it. Now, I know, your going to say.....how can you be friends with known racists?

Because.....I come from a family of them. I married a German whose mom still thinks 'niggers are dumb and smell'. Yup, she said that. Do I hate her? No. Will I still go over and eat at her house? Yes. Just because she is ignorant about one thing doesn't make her a bad or stupid person.

Nor will I tell her I have had sex with one and probably will again if the mood suites me.

She would probably have a heart attack.

I was raised by racist stupid KKK member people and I DID disown them for awhile when I was a kid. I actually stopped talking to my family for a full 7 years while I went out into the world and found out for myself that skin color and various differences in bone structure don't make a whole hell of alot of difference.

And if you eat at one of my family gatherings, on either side of the family.....you might actually hear something like this: They did a study once, and scientists...proved whites are smarter than blacks blah blah blah......

I can take the good of a person with the bad......but.......if your a racist.....I won't hang out with you often, because I can't take the comments often.

Your loss.

But, I can take it. Obviously.....since.....I still see my own family.

Just going to stay away from the whole evolution/creation part of this... but...

Anyone who thinks that Adam and Eve could be lumped into a modern racial pigoen hole is crazy. Whether it was creationism or Evolution... people of that long ago don;t fit into the same racial catagorys.

I think that's fucking stupid as it was so long ago she could have been avacado with purple polkadots all over her and no one would know today. NO ONE KNOWS WHAT COLOR SHE WAS! It's all just speculation and theory. No one can even agree what color Jesus was (I've heard white, black, and arab. Based on the geographical location of his birth I'm betting either of the last two).

An ex boss's wife knew a guy who actually thought all white people were aliens and that black people were decendants of apes. People believe different things and no one will ever agree without cold hard facts presented to them which we will never have as the past is long long dead. Until someone invents a time machine no one will ever know.

here is a question I will pose:

Malcolm X, prior to going to Mecca, hated white people.

Considering what he had to deal with, was this a justifiable position?

Can you say that if you were a black man living in the 1950's and 60's that you wouldn't be the same way?

I can't. If I was Malcolm X I might have felt the same exact way. I would have been wrong, but it's certainly understandable.

Furthermore, no one has really defined the parameters for racism yet.

This is true.... I would like to here what people have to say about what they think Racism is....

It really depends I guess ..

it can mean one of two things for me ..

Someone thinking their race is superior to all other races ..

Or someone looking down or being bias against any other person due to their race.

Race meaning ethnicity.

But then there are people that give into racial sterotypes .. without being "rasict"... hmmm .. Does that qualify as being "rasict? Just a question that came into my brain while debating this with myself ....

Posted

Some people have a problem making a distinction between culture and race.... it's one thing to see peoples culture is lower then yourself, and quite another to think that someones color makes them somehow inferior to you

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

would you then be able to say "I don't like black culture" without being a racist?

and what is the definition of culture?

edit: I am really wondering about those questions, I am not trying to start troublre, they are honest questions. I don't know the answers myself.

Yes its a bit different but not by much, atleast to me anyway. But I see your point Phee.

Example: Some Neo-Nazi guy sees a "white"guy trying to act "black" .. is he not really looking down on him because he is black becasue he is white. He just has adapted to the culture right? Growing up in a mostly black envoirment its only natural. So he is white but the Neo still looks down on him because of the culture he has addapted into his life... Good Point Phee.

But it still fuels hatred, which some embrace. Im myself can not, its not in my nature.<~~~~~ (part hippie shhh! don't tell anyone :erm )

Good question.... but there is no such thing as "Black Culture" There are certain cultures where black people are the main ethnicity.... but let's take "G-Homie" culture for example... I see white and black people doing the undearwear showing bass booming, sideways hat wearing... If I don't like the style... race doesn't come into it...

And also "Black Culture" does that mean Aboriginal Australia? or South Central L.A.? those are both cultures with black people as the main race involved in the culture...

Culture to me:

the tastes in art and manners that are favored by a social group

I agree that "homie G" culture is not black culture, that's an important distinction to make. However there are some people who are black and are a part of "homie g" culture that do not make the distinction and thus they might feel you would be a racist for being opposed to "homie g" style of dress or whatever.

I'll give you an example. In the NBA many players wore "homie g" clothes before and after games and the NBA did not like it. The commissioner instituted a dress code, saying "if you are going to represent the NBA, then you'll wear a suit during all team orineted functions". Several of the players called it racism. Interestingly most of the older players (retired) like Magic Johnson, Charles barkley and Reggie Miller are black and they applauded the dress code.

Do you get what I am trying to say or did the NBA story make it more confusing?

Good point Phee, but you must admit .. when a knowledge system that is shared between a large group of people that are say 95% german, would be considered more of the german culture .. then lets say... the .5% of mexicans that also share in that same culture. There for it is labled German culture or tradtion. Though that lable my be false, it is still what happens.

Yes that makes sense... and if I did say I didn't like "homie G" culture I do believe that a lot of people would think I am racist...
